On Friday PBS NewsHour, anchor William Brangham twisted around the horrible child rape in Ohio as something the Republicans tried to “make hay” of, somehow not a story that Democrats and the liberal media were the first to exploit.
The story began as a single source in Indianapolis Star CNN’s Dana Bash, a CNN reporter, hurled it at Gov. Kristi Noem tried to intimidate Gov. about the possibility of murdering a child after rape. What happened? Washington Post Glenn Kessler used “Fact Checker”. StarThe reporter and the source of her information about abortion refused to speak, so Republicans made “hay” out of it. This caused the controversy to force it out.
BRANGHAM – Jonathan, I would like to turn to the ongoing fallout from Roe v. Wade being overturned by the Supreme Court.
Democrats think that this might be one of their best chances of winning in the next midterms. This week, we heard about the horrendous case involving a 10 year-old girl who had been subject to rape. She got pregnant. She was — then had to leave her state and go to another state where abortion would still be allowed.
Und GOP officials attempted to capitalize on it. The GOP officials doubted the authenticity of that tale. According to the local A.G., they would pursue the doctor who performed it. Do you think that — that issue and the extremity of the way that this is being handled will actually benefit Democrats?
Brangham was determined to make it clear that Democrats need to support this initiative. He repeated David Brooks’ question, “It was an extreme case in certain ways.It exemplified the ugliness and horror of the division in the United States. Are you positive it will be to Democrats’ advantage?Brooks said, “Not much,” as the economy is so poor.
Jonathan Capehart, on the other side, said that the child was being “persecuted, prosecuted”, for having an abortion. He then slinked back into what America looked like. The Handmaid’s Tale Trump is still in power, but we are there.
CAPEHART – We are here Handmaid’s Tale territory here. We’re turning into Gilead. And if there are people out there who are upset by the Supreme Court decision, by what Republican legislators around the country in states and localities are doing to further restrictions and bans on abortion, I don’t know what else could push people to the polls more than not just being stripped of a constitutional right, but having your right to — right to freedom, right to privacy, right to liberty not just taken away, but local officials doing everything they can to ensure that you don’t have autonomy over your own body.
If this doesn’t bring people to the polls I don’t know how it will.
The NewsHour also used this story to host a liberal hay-making interview on Thursday night with Dr. Katie McHugh of “Physicians for Reproductive Health.” In neither segment did PBS report that the confessed child rapist is an illegal immigrant. No one gets to “make hay” with that.
