Jonathan Capehart, MSNBC’s host, brought in David Hogg (a young gun-grabber) to talk with the media on Sunday. Hogg insisted Highland Park shooting suspect Robert Crimo III is a white nationalist. Is there anyone who isn’t mentally ill?
People in minority communities are not eligible for the mental-health treatment they require to combat PTSD after shootings. . . Redlining.
DAVID HOGG : Hatred doesn’t constitute a mental illness. IIt is hard to believe that white nationalist terrorists are attacking the United States. We act out as though hatred is a mental disorder. Racism does not exist as a mental disorder. Racism is something that can be taught. Hatred can also be taught.
That is the goal of our country The treatment of gun deaths can be aided by mental illness. This only applies to suicides, which account for about two-thirds. Stigmatizing gun deaths is not going to decrease their number. Making people believe mental illness can only be addressed when there is an act of white-nationalist violenceIt kills people. That is what happened to 17 of my fellow educators and students last year when white nationalists attacked my high school.
As for Crimo being a white nationalist, the only information that’s been made public to date is this statement by the spokesman for the law-enforcement agency in charge of the investigation in Highland Park:
We don’t have any evidence to indicate that it was motivated by race, religion, or another protected status.
Hogg and Capehart criticized Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell’s statement on the Highland Park shootings, in which he said:
“I believe yesterday’s shooting shows the extent of the problem. Mental health is the problem.
Crimo does not have a mental-illness defense for the crime he is accused of. Is it reasonable to assume that Crimo is severely disturbed based upon the information available to us, and the photos here?
Capehart agreed with Hogg’s argument, complimenting him on his “excellent point” that mental illness is only mentioned in relation to white-nationalist gunmen. He also wondered what it would take for McConnell to listen to Hogg and get the Republicans to do the same.
Hogg also shared this Word Salad about Redlining and Treatment for PTSD in Minority Communities:
We need to talk about mental health in the country, particularly, how to finance it. The trauma and PTSD black and brown communities suffer from the disproportionate amount of gun violence. . . These children don’t receive the assistance support that Parkland kids did. Since they don’t get it, their numbers are not as high as those of other races. They don’t have the same community resources as Parkland. It’s not that they did so,It was so built Through successive injustices in our nation’s history.Problems like redlining“
What is it about liberals that they want to “conversations around” certain issues? Hogg gets bonus woke points for incorporating redlining in his speech.
The latest display of David Hogg’s er, expertise was sponsored in part by Progressive, Colonial Penn, Intel, and Dell.

JONATHAN CAPEHART That is a wonderful pointIt ties in nicely with the next question I was about to ask. You do have Republican leaders. Most notably the Senate Minority Leader. Mitch Mcconnell stated, in response to Highland Park: “I think yesterday’s shooting is yet another example of how the problem is.” Mental health is the issue. These young men seem inspired to do these horrible acts.”
David, how do you get Republicans (and Republican leaders like McConnell) to listen to what I just asked in your response to my question?
HOGG : This is the reality. It’s fascinating to see that. These are terrorist acts, but it is only when they’re white terrorists that we can call them mentally ill.
The fact is that It is important to discuss mental health issues in our country. We must also fund and address the traumas and PTSD suffered by black and other minority communities due to their high levels of gun violence. This is not something that we address on a daily base in this country.
How does this affect mental illness? What about those children that have to walk every day to school around bloody chalk marks where there were bodies? They don’t make the news. These children don’t receive the same assistance support as Parkland kids. They aren’t white because they don’t have one. They don’t have the same community resources as Parkland. They chose it, not because of their choice. because It was made through every injustice that has been experienced in our nation’s history. With issues like redliningAnd, there are other types of this injustice.
CAPEHART – David Hogg (cofounder March for Our Lives) Thank you so much, everyone.
HOGG – Thank you.
