An ironic political dynamic surrounds Facebook. Facebook’s leaders and company tilt heavily to the right. More than 91% were contributed by employees during the 2020 cycle. Back to 2018, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO donated $100 million for a pro-immigration group. Sheryl Sandberg was also the chief of operations for Hillary Victory Fund, donating $400,000
While conservatives may have issues with Facebook, the most fierce criticism comes from the Left, who accuse Facebook of failing to adequately censor proTrump posts and right-wing conspiracy theories.
In the liberal media Morning Joewas the leader of anti-Facebook gang. The show renewed its crusade this morning, prompted by allegations by former Facebook employee Frances Haugen, who testified before a Senate committee Tuesday.
Morning JoeCarol Cadwalladr is an investigative journalist for the UK newspaper of left-wing. The Observer. She began writing articles in 2016 about what she calls the “right-wing fake information ecosystem”.
Cadwalladr was a vocal critic of Facebook. Cadwalladr has been a fierce critic of Facebook throughout her Morning JoeThe appearanceCadwalladr was openly rooting for Facebook’s downfallIt is a saying
Facebook may be in deep trouble. . .We could witness the beginning of something, I think. . . It’s not my intention to jeopardize itBut maybe some kind of reckoning is coming.
Joe Scarborough, Mika, and Joe Scarborough endorsed Cadwalladr’s anti-Facebook views. Scarborough wished that “justice—justice!—may be finally served” on Zuckerberg and Sandberg.
Und Mika complained that Facebook doesn’t have enough “checks and balances,” to ensure people can access the information they need.
Richard Haass from the Council on Foreign Relations was normally a calm person and joined the anti-Facebook Brigade, calling it nothing more than This is destructive to “every democracy in the world.”
Haass proposed solutions had an unsettling ring: “improve public education” or “provide alternative Facebook” Is Haass requesting that government schools indoctrinate their children not to use Facebook and instead get their information through approved sources such as MSNBC/CNN. What other alternatives should Facebook be offered than by the free market?
Notes: Cadwalladr’s anti-Facebook diatribe was punctuated by a funny habit where she would add laughters to the proceedings. [see screencap]These are the results. These were not Kamala-like cackles but they weren’t inappropriate given her grave antagonism towards Facebook.
Mika said she was horrified that she had met “really nice” couple who claimed they received all of their information from Facebook. Mika said she met the couple “up in New England—In the country“Ah, the country. A couple of them are New England rednecks.
Morning Joe’s anti-Facebook segment, in which British journalist Carol Cadwalladr foresaw the “beginning of the end” for Facebook, was sponsored in part by Johnson & Johnson, maker of Neutrogena, Clear Choice, and Sleep Number.

6:18 am EDTMIKA BRZEZINSKI: Let’s bring reporter and feature writer for the Observer, Carol Cadwalladr. 2018: She revealed the Facebook-related scandals and exposed Cambridge Analytica, a consultancy firm. Watch her Ted Talk if you don’t have the time. It really goes through all of these dangers, how they spread, and how widespread they are.
CAROLCADWALLADR: “I think, I think,”Facebook is facing serious problemsYou can always go down.
. .
JOE SCARBOROUGH (I’m just asking): You have been following and covering this topic for so long. Is there something you think may exist? A sense of finality, finally? That justice—justice!— that justice may finally be served Mark Zuckerberg, Sheryl and all the other members of the Facebook Board for the great work they did to our country and around the world.
Joe, this is CADWALLADR. You have covered the subject so well on this program. As you said, academics have critics. Journalists, journalists, and whistleblowers all say exactly the same things. It has not been water out of the river. There is no way to know when the next time will be. These issues are serious, I believe. This is what I do believe. We could witness the beginning of something. . . Joe: Joe I believe there may be a possibility. I hate to admit it, but I really don’t want. I don’t want to, to jinx it. Perhaps there will be some kind of reckoning.
. .MIKA It was New England that I was there. The countryTwo very kind people came to my rescue and were going on about the most incredible conspiracy theories. The two of us talked further and I inquired, “How did you do it?” Facebook. You can find all of your news from Facebook. You can find all your news on Facebook. All their news is available on Facebook.
It is a major distortion. Information flows freely into society without any checks or balances. You think that this is the tipping point.
RICHARD HAASS: It’s too soon to predict a tipping point, and it’s Our democracy is being harmed.
MIKA:
HAASS Our democracy is not the only democracy. Democracy everywhere around the globe. It’s dangerous to people’s health. It’s becoming increasingly common to compare tobacco with cigarettes. So I think the real question is, you can’t stop people from going there. It’s the question. Can you make public education better? Are there alternatives? Facebook therefore operates in a competitive environment.
