Old Man Yells at Clouds After Joe Manchin Puts the Kibosh on ‘Build Back Better’ – Opinion

Bernie Sanders is big mad. He wants you to learn about it. As RedState has reported in the past, Sanders has been at odds with Joe Manchin for the entirety of the negotiations over the “Build Back Better” bill. Manchin was forced to explain to Senator Manchin how leverage works, more times than one.

Joe Manchin teaches Bernie Sanders valuable lessons about leverage

Sanders has started to lash out now that the BBB bill appears dead. He immediately sent out a letter and petition that trashed Manchin’s decision.

What gets me about what’s in this letter is how disconnected from reality it is. Sanders begins by lamenting billionaires because that’s literally all he ever talks about. He then cites the BBB bill as a solution — despite the fact that it does nothing to stop the rich from getting richer and actually includes a massive SALT tax giveaway to the ultra-wealthy. It is actually the largest line item of the bill.

This is where Democrats are reduced. The Democrats mumble to the rich, while trying pass legislation for the benefit of the wealthy. This makes perfect sense.

As the letter continues, Sanders says that Democrats are going to “take on the greed of the pharmaceutical companies.” But last I checked, it’s the left that has given those companies a complete pass in regards to the COVID-19 vaccines and wants to keep shoveling taxpayer money into their coffers. Another example of Democrats being a mess is their inconsistency.

Sanders eventually starts levying threats, suggesting that Manchin should be made to actually vote down the BBB bill so that he has to “explain” to West Virginians why they aren’t receiving a boatload of unnecessary progressive handouts. That’s silly, though. West Virginia has a strong red state. Manchin’s voters aren’t going to be upset that he didn’t further expand Medicaid or drive up the price of child-care with government subsidies. They will instead be supportive.

Sanders then gets conspiratorial by suggesting that Manchin didn’t vote down BBB bills out of fear for inflation and debt, but rather because he was concerned about them. Evidently, there’s a suggestion that West Virginia Senator was somehow paid. I don’t buy that, though. Manchin’s decision came down to two things: The inflationary boom we are currently in and his political future.

What Sanders’ venom tells me is that BBB is actually dead. If there was any chance of getting Manchin back to the table to pass the bill anywhere near its current form, Sanders wouldn’t be dumping on him like this. The members of the “squad” would be, but they are morons who have no sense of strategy. Sanders had previously kept his mouth shut, hoping to retain Manchin. But now that he’s shaking his fist at the clouds and yelling uncontrollably, you can ascertain that Sanders does believe this is over. Manchin has won — and there’s nothing he can do about it.
