Liberals are apt to draw comparisons between conservative positions and those of mass-shooters…or others who refuse to stop them.
Al Gore only compared “climate denier” to Uvalde police officers who stood by at Uvalde’s elementary school. On Monday night, All Things Considered Austin-based NPR reporter Sergio Martinez-Beltran compared “hardline Republicans” pushing Texas Gov. Greg Abbott discusses immigration and the El Paso Walmart shooter in 2019.
MARTINEZ BELTRAN – Abbott earlier this month signed an executive ordering authorizing Texas National Guard (Dept of Public Safety) to capture migrants and bring them back to entry ports. Still, Some conservative Republicans have criticised Abbott’s inability to invoke an “invasion by the U.S.” Constitution.” It’s also the same language used by white men in El Paso in 2019.
NPR failed to identify who these allegedly murder-friendly Republicans are, but the liberal Texas Tribune reported “The Center for Renewing America, a conservative think tank led by Ken Cuccinelli, a former Homeland Security official under Trump, has been leading the charge to get Abbott to declare an invasion.”
(On today’sMorning EditionIt was done again. They compared talk about “invasion” not only to the El Paso shootings but also to that of the Buffalo supermarket shootings, as NPR smells like “white substitution theory.”
Martinez-Beltran described Abbott as an “ultraconservative,” even among “hardliners”, who believe he isn’t going far enough. But Beto O’Rourke wasn’t an “ultraliberal”, even though NPR stated that “on immigration, guns and just about any other issue, Beto Obrourke and Abbott hold polar opposing views.” O’Rourke wants to win the support of Republicans as well as independents that are offended by Abbott’s rhetoric.
NPR doesn’t recall O’Rourke’s statement on immigration, “take down the wall.” According to them, O’Rourke was just five points behind the leader in recent polls. FiveThirtyEight.com says the polls average to about eight points.
O’Rourke was defeated in his bid for the presidency and lost to Ted Cruz for the Senate. However, Martinez-Beltran only projects a grim future for Abbott.
MARTINEZ BELTRAN – Abbott is not the only Republican governor who has pushed for extremely conservative immigration policies. California passed in 1994 a ballot measure that prohibited undocumented persons from using the public services including schools. Pete Wilson, the former governor of California was at the forefront of this proposal.
PETE WILSON : I work to end state assistance to illegal immigrants. This is enough.
MARTINEZ BELTRAN: Jan Brewer, former Governor of Arizona signed in 2010 a Senate Bill that requires state police officers to check the immigration status for all arrestees.
JAN BREWER – Although many disagree with me, it is what I believe best represents Arizona.
MARTINEZ BELTRAN: However, a glance at Wilson’s and Brewers history might help Abbott to see what the future holds for him. Wilson attempted to run for the presidency, but his campaign was short-lived. Brewer, however, hasn’t been an active participant in Republican politics since her departure.
NPR is the supposed oasis of civility and journalism. It’s supported by the American taxpayer.
