No Way Home’ Going Gangbusters at the Box Office Proving Non-Woke Movies are What We Want – Opinion

It looks like Sony/Marvel’s latest Spider-Man outing can’t be stopped at the box office as it continues to surge forward in sales, raking in $260 million domestically and over $600 million globally according to The Hollywood Reporter.

No wonder. I went to the theater on Sunday to see what all the hype was about myself and had one of the best movie experiences I’ve had in some time. This was one of those movies you would easily consider a knock out of the park, and will likely go down as one of Marvel’s best movies alongside Avengers: Infinity War Civil War Captain America.

I won’t spoil Spider-Man, There’s No Way HomeIt is impossible to express my gratitude except for the fact that you will get all your hopes fulfilled. As already somewhat foretold, even a Marvel’s Netflix character shows up, solidifying the connection between the works.

It is a masterpiece of writing. It even wraps up past plotlines and confronts regrets about certain characters and films. To be sure, this isn’t the happy feel-good movie one would expect from a Spider-Man film. The movie dangles regrets and melancholy over its characters, while also giving them new perspectives. But it does this so well that it feels like it’s finished nicely, despite the typical Marvel openings to future Marvel stories.

If you’re a Marvel fan or a fan of superhero films in general, this movie is one you won’t want to miss in theaters.

I will spoil one thing for you, however…the movie does not have a lick of wokeness anywhere in it.

It was a risk I took to make sure. I was not expecting something that could be divisive, mean-spirited. The closest it got was a joke to Spider-Man by Jamie Foxx’s “Electro” saying that because of all the friendly-neighborhood work he does, especially for the poor, he was positive Peter Parker was actually black, but this didn’t seem to be done to make a political statement. This was actually more of a joke in Spider-Man films about Miles Morales.

But, it was not a moment of waking up. The characters behaved as any other human. It was not 90 lb. There was no 90 lb. It’s just good, wholesome fun.

It’s no wonder so many have flocked to the theaters to see it. Not only is the movie very well written and acted out, but there’s no reason for anyone to feel attacked. The theater was welcoming to everyone.

YouTuber “The Critical Drinker” said it well.

“It’s almost like people just want good old-fashioned escapist entertainment that doesn’t preach or pander or divide. Who knew?”

We’ve had so many examples of programs and movies going woke and thusly going broke. Recently, Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop was canceled after only three seasons with many viewers complaining about the writers stripping the show of its original soul in order to replace it with modern political sentiments.

No one wants to pay for escapist entertainment and get a sermon about their character from people who don’t know them. Hollywood is too focused on narrow ideologies and mischaracterizing people.

You can’t go home! isn’t making this movie for a certain audience, just show up and have a good time. It’s escapism as it’s meant to be, with care dedicated to the characters and writing that was handled skillfully. It deserves all the money it’s getting right now.

It is our hope that the studios will take this information and use it to understand what we have been saying for years.

Get up and get out of bed.
