New York City’s Law Allowing Aliens to Vote is Struck Down By Trial Judge But the Matter is Far From Over – Opinion

New York City Council did something radical when it adopted a local ordinance that would allow resident aliens the right to vote in New York City’s municipal elections. RedState featured the New York City decision as New York City gives non-citizens the right to vote. And here are Democrats’ desperate attempts to lessen election security.

Non-citizens voting is an affront to the concept of democracy as it exists in other parts of the world. The notion that resident aliens should be allowed to vote simply by virtue of living somewhere is so bizarre that only a progressive sh**hole like New York City (or San Francisco or Los Angeles…you get the picture) could have inflicted it on hapless inhabitants. Yet, Eric Adams, the mayoral candidate, was so fond of it that he signed it as a campaign item, and then refused to sign it once he had been elected.

A more flagrant attack on voter integrity than the ones in Philadelphia, Detroit and Milwaukee is hard to imagine. Anyone who has been in touch with New York City’s Democrat machine knows that not only residents of New York City would be able to register. There was no doubt that illegals would be registered to vote.

It is possible to corrupt the voter rolls. It is not easy to corrupt the voter rolls. The results for the whole state of New York will be questioned if the corrupted voting data is taken from New York City.

A number of Republican lawmakers sued to end this scandal, and won.

A New York City law that would allow noncitizens voting in New York City elections has been struck down by the State Supreme Court justice on Staten Island. He said it was against New York’s Constitution.

In December, the City Council passed this measure which would allow more than 800,000 permanent legal residents or green card holders to vote for office such as mayor and City Council.

Justice Ralph J. Porzio, however, ruled Monday that the law was incompatible with Constitution guidelines which state that eligible citizens are allowed to vote. The judge stated that a referendum would be required to give non-citizens the right of vote.

The law was not set to go into effect until January of next year, and the ruling will have no effect on Tuesday’s primary election in New York.

These are just a few notes to help you see the point. Don’t be fooled by the “State Supreme Court” title. This is New York’s lowest court. It is followed by two more levels, the Court of Appeals being the highest. It is possible to see something positive by just watching Law & OrderAs hard as it may seem, this is true. It is the first instance that a judge has ruled in this case. You have plenty of room for mischief.

“Today’s decision validates those of us who can read the plain English words of our State Constitution and State statutes,” said Joseph Borelli, a Republican councilman from Staten Island who was one of the plaintiffs. “Noncitizen voting in New York is illegal.”

Unfortunately, Borelli appears to believe that he lives in a country that is governed by law. This law wouldn’t have been approved if that was the case. But he doesn’t, and there is no reason to believe judges in higher courts will be loyal to the law and not to their political masters. This travesty can be overcome if Mayor Adams decides that it is too costly for him to defend indefensible laws.
