New San Francisco DA Brooke Jenkins Must Be Doing Something Right, as the Far-Left Is in Shambles – Opinion

Brooke Jenkins, the new San Francisco District attorney fired 15 employees from her office on Friday. After the recall of Chesa Boudin, disgraced district attorney Chesa Boudin, Jenkins was appointed San Francisco Mayor London Breed. These firings took place in her first week.

Particularly, one individual who was fired left the Democratic Party’s far-left wing in chaos. Arcelia Hurtado, the managing attorney of the city was the first to be fired. She served on the city’s Innocence Commission, which investigates potential wrongful convictions in San Francisco, according to SF Gate.

“Today, I made difficult, but important changes to my management team and staff that will help advance my vision to restore a sense of safety in San Francisco by holding serious and repeat offenders accountable and implementing smart criminal justice reforms.”

Lara Bazelon from the University of San Francisco, who is the chair of this commission, explained to SF Gate

“The decision by Brooke Jenkins to fire Arcelia Hurtado is deeply concerning, especially given the promise she made just yesterday to allow the Innocence Commission to continue to function … Arcelia was critical to the commission’s function. It is also concerning because Arcelia was the head of the DA’s post-conviction review unit, which, among other things, is currently considering the petition by Mayor London Breed’s brother Napoleon Brown to be granted leniency and released from prison following his conviction for carjacking and manslaughter. I can see no legitimate reason for firing an attorney as rigorous, competent and ethical as Arcelia.”

Brown was sentenced 44 years for involuntary killing, armed theft and carjacking. This followed an arrest in 2000. Mayor Breed asked Jerry Brown to commute Brown’s sentence in 2018 as he was seeking his re-sentencement. San Francisco’s Ethics Commission fined her $23,000 for the infraction.

According to SF Gate Cat Brooks was co-founder and leader of the anti-police-terrorist project.

“I’ll be interested to see what she does there … Conflict of interest and the mayor do not shock me … I came to DA Boudin’s office to fight for criminal justice reform; that battle has never felt more urgent … There is no question that DA Jenkins’ approach differs dramatically from my values. My passion for the mission to reform our legal system is stronger than ever and I am eager for the next opportunity to effect change.”

So, the far-left opposed Jenkins’ firings, precisely Hurtado’s firing, because she has a soft-on-crime approach. The United States has laws. If someone is convicted of a crime they must pay the penalty. If they don’t want to spend time in prison, they should not commit a crime and break the law.

San Francisco residents got fed up. They voted in Chesa Bodin out, and Jenkins now has a tough-on–crime DA. It is hoped that Jenkins will not give in to the demands of the far-left.

Los Angeles residents will be able to recall George Gascon’s disgraced deputy attorney general in November if sufficient recall signatures have been verified. The voters in Los Angeles will then elect another DA.

Because criminals have become so ruthless, no matter their party affiliations and the residents are tired of them, the tide is shifting in these bluest cities.
