New Questions About Charges, Mugshot, Body Cam in Arrest of Paul Pelosi – Opinion

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, was arrested on May 29 for allegedly driving under the influence and driving with a blood-alcohol level of over 0.08. Pelosi was in his 2021 Porsche, and was involved with another car before being arrested. According to the police reports, the accident happened at 10:26 p.m.; Pelosi was arrested around 11:44 p.m., but then he wasn’t booked until 4:13 a.m. It’s not been explained why there’s such a long time in between the arrest and the booking time. Pelosi was released three hours later.

The case remains a mystery.

We are often asked where we can find the traditional mugshot after someone has been arrested. What about the bodycam? Why haven’t we seen them yet? Numerous media outlets requested them.

But authorities are refusing to release them, saying they could “jeopardize” the investigation.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) on Thursday denied a public records request seeking the release of body and dashboard camera video documenting Paul Pelosi’s arrest last month on suspicion of drunk driving.

CHP informed Fox News Digital in a letter that it has the footage in question, “however, the Napa County District Attorney’s Office has advised the release of records would jeopardize an ongoing investigation.”

This is my question. How would releasing a video of an intoxicated Paul Pelosi “jeopardize” the investigation? Could someone please explain this to me? Funny how it hasn’t jeopardized the investigation in so many other cases where some Joe Blow off the street is arrested and we’ve seen body cam. A mugshot would not jeopardize an investigation. Every Harry, Dick and Tom are mugshots. Is there a Paul?

But there’s another concern: are they going to charge him at all?

Some people spread the false report that the charges against him were dropped over the past day. That’s not true. However, it’s not clear that he’s going to be charged yet, according to the D.A., Allison Haley.

In a separate press release Thursday, the DA’s Office said that it has not decided yet what, if any, charges, will be filed against the 82-year-old businessman.

“This is standard protocol in any DUI case that is referred by a law enforcement agency in Napa County,” the agency stated. “No decision has been made at this time. Any speculation to the contrary is incorrect.”

They said that “[t]he case is currently under review to decide what, if any, charges will be filed against Mr. Pelosi.”

So, they haven’t even decided to charge him. He is going to ski? It’s absurd that there would be such a question. They aren’t talking. Also, if they charge him, they’re not even going to arraign him until 8:30 a.m. on August 3. An arraignment usually takes less than a day from the arrest. Why is it being delayed when so many vacationers are there?

Many questions. But not many answers. These authorities need to respond.
