New NBC Show Character Refuses to Date ‘Black Republican:’ ‘Nope!’

NBC has premiered a series that centers on a group in Los Angeles called Black Friends. Grand Crew with a pilot episode that has a character fretting about dating a — gasp! — “black Republican.”

The pilot is Tuesday 14 December 2014. Nicky (Nicole Byer), goes out with Davis (LaMonica Garret) on a date. She is attracted to him but becomes concerned after he makes a sarcastic comment about Obama’s failed economic recovery. In a wine bar near her, she discusses her concerns to her friends.

Nicky, I’m glad you liked my date with Davis. He’s got a sexy mind and body and smells like fresh lavender. But at one point in the night, he did say, “Thanks, Obama.” 

Wyatt, Wait! How did he actually say that? Like, “Thanks, Obama!” 

Nicky, It was quite sarcastic. Like, “Thanks, Obama.” It made me wonder what he might have been like. A Black Republican. However, they aren’t out on the streets as such. 

Wyatt – So, what’s your plan? 

Nicky: I suppose the only way to figure out what he meant is to see him again and have sex with him. Ow! Thanks, Obama. 

When Nicky goes out with Davis again, she sees books by Ben Carson, a photo of him with President George W. Bush, and other Republican paraphernalia in his home and is freaked out.

Nicky: You are so talented at this. 

Davis: My goal is to make you happy. 

Nicky: [Laughs] [Dramatic musical sting] Oh, no. [Dramatic sting] Oh, no. [Dramatic sting] Oh, no. 

Davis: Is it possible? Davis: What is it? 

Nicky: I’m sorry. Are you a Republican? 

Davis: Well, yeah. That’s a problem. 

Nicky: But you seem so normal. 

Davis: [Laughs] I am normal. Let’s not forget politics. It doesn’t matter if you are a Democrat. It’s just that I care about your intelligence and humor. Damn, you turn me on. 

Nicky: Yeah? You’re right. Politics shouldn’t get in the way of all this. It’s great to see you open-minded. 

Davis: Excellent.

Nicky: Yes. [Moans] Your thoughts about reproductive rights Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. Whoo, nope! 

Davis was lucky to avoid a bullet. He is lucky to avoid getting involved with a woman who refers to killing unborn children as “reproductive rights.” Davis can do better.

As the Democrat Party is increasingly seen as anti-men, more men of all races and backgrounds are gravitating towards the Republican party. If they are looking for a normal, nice guy to date, the Nickies would do well to be open-minded and flexible. Hollywood should also recognize that Hollywood is not all leftists.
