Thanks to a hero tipster, two men with hundreds of rounds of ammunition and assault rifles were stopped from carrying out their slaughter on the Fourth of July. However, CBS and ABC failed to mention that the men are illegally present in America.
Julio Alvarado Dubon and Rolman Balicarcel were both Guatemalans that planned to kill people at Richmond’s Dogwood Dell Amphitheater. On Thursday’s Good Morning America, reporter Pierre Thomas noted:
Police say that a concerned citizen overheard the conversation and called 911 to stop the plot. Two men were arrested with high-powered assault rifles, handguns and over 200 rounds of ammunition.
In the 53rd story there was no mention of their illegality. Thomas simply added, “No word on motive.” On Wednesday’s CBS Evening NewsJericka Duncan was the guest anchor and she allowed for 24 seconds to report on the story.
Authorities in Richmond, Virginia, claim it was a tip which helped them to stop another Fourth of July massacre. Police said a, quote, “hero citizen” made a phone call after hearing a conversation about a planned attack that day. Two suspects were taken into custody by Police Chief Gerald Smith. They also seized two assault rifles and one handgun, as well as 223 ammunition rounds.
She ignored again the fact that both men were illegal. There was a blink-and-you-miss-it, non-verbal notation. During the show open, Duncan teased the story: “A tragedy averted. Police in Richmond, Virginia, praise a hero citizen who called in a tip that saved lives.” In the background, you can briefly see a photo from the Richmond police press conference on the arrests. Next to a picture of one of the men are the words: “No-citizens in Possession of Firearms – Charges.”
On Wednesday, CNN’s Alisyn Camerota mentioned the two suspects, but not that they were illegal. You’d have to go to CNN.com to find this mention: “Both suspects have been charged with being non-citizens in possession of a firearm.” The Richmond Times-Dispatch explained:
Tracy Walker, spokesperson for the police said that both were originally from Guatemala. According to initial records filed at Richmond General District Court, both Alvarado Dubon & Balacarcel were not legally present in the U.S.
NBC so far has not paid attention to the Richmond shooting. It is shameful. This is a story that deserves to be told.
Many NewsBusters reports have featured me, exposing how evening newscasts on the network ignore illegal immigration and the border crisis. This week, uncountable lives were saved by a heroic tipter. They were also illegally here. The networks don’t want you to know that.
Liberty Mutual sponsored ABC’s cover up on this important point. It was Dell computers on CBS. To let CBS know your thoughts, click the links.
