On Tuesday, NBC’s TodayThe show focused on the Biden Department of Justice, which attempted to intimidate Texas into altering its electoral maps to favor Democrats. The heavily slanted segment amounted to a litany of left-wing grievances attacking the Republican-controlled state and accusing it of racist redistricting.
“Also this morning, an ongoing battle over voting rights is intensifying. The Justice Department now suing the state of Texas over its new redistricting plan, saying it would discriminate against minority voters,”Savannah Guthrie was the co-host and she announced it breathlessly just minutes after starting on the morning program. Morgan Chesky, correspondent to DOJ was the DOJ spokesperson and issued this press release.
At its heart, however, this DOJ statement is about Texas’s minorities and their inability to get adequate representation. This lawsuit contains two claims. The first is that Texas Republicans deliberately did it to suppress minority votes. Number two, even if it wasn’t intentional, the impact was still discriminatory, and the DOJ can win on either of those claims.
Chesky exaggerated in the following taped report “a Texas-sized fight over voting maps”The Justice Department’s cries for racism: “The suit alleges the state’s new maps violate the Voting Rights Act because they discriminate against voters in the state’s booming Latino and black populations.”
The reporter at least briefly read a tweet from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, “calling the suit ‘absurd,’ adding he is ‘confident that our legislature’s redistricting decisions will be proven lawful, and this preposterous attempt to sway democracy will fail.’”
Every other soundbite was however from a Democrat. A clip ran of Biden’s Attorney Merrick Garland, another clip was featured of U.S. Vanita Garland, Associate Attorney General, was featured. A second clip showed U.S. Representative Ramone Ramiro. All were complaining about the Republican redistricting plan.
Chesky, despite these soundbites was undistinguishable among liberal partisans.
After the 2020 census, two additional congressional seats were allocated to California. However, there was not one new district that had a majority of Hispanic or black voters. Both of the new seats now have large white voting blocs ….The new redrawn districts were signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott this fall and pave a safer path for the GOP’s majority to stay in power….It’s part of a national wave of states redrawing their voting maps, many controlled by Republican lawmakers, that could impact next year’s midterm elections and those for years to come.
Chesky ended the story by echoing extreme Biden administration demands. “And right now, the DOJ is asking the courts to prohibit Texas from conducting elections under these challenged plans and they’re also asking the courts to make sure these maps are redrawn.”
Texas, especially NBC has long been a target of leftist media. The broadcast network supported state Democrats as they tried to undermine democracy in July. NBC claimed that in November it was able to help spark a DOJ civil right investigation into Southlake Texas’ school district for its rejection of radical Critical Race Theory.
Tuesday’s DOJ propaganda from NBC was brought to viewers by Kia and Dick’s Sporting Goods. These advertisers can be contacted to let them know your opinion about sponsoring this content.

SAVANNAH GUTHIE: The ongoing struggle over voting rights continues this morning. Texas’s new redistricting plan is now under investigation by the Justice Department. The Justice Department claims it will discriminate against minority voters. NBC’s Morgan Chesky joins us from Dallas with that story. Good morning Morgan.
MORGAN CHESKY: Hey, Savannah, good morning. At its heart, the DOJ states that the lawsuit concerns Texas’s minority voters and how they are not being represented in the state. There are two main claims in this case. First, Texas Republicans did it intentionally to suppress minorities votes. Number two, even if it wasn’t intentional, the impact was still discriminatory, and the DOJ can win on either of those claims.
[ON-SCREEN HEADLINE: Texas Voting Maps Controversy]
Today, Texas is in a battle over its voting map. On Monday, the Department of Justice filed a lawsuit challenging Texas Republicans’ plan for redrawing congressional and state legislative districts. The suit alleges the state’s new maps violate the Voting Rights Act because they discriminate against voters in the state’s booming Latino and black populations.
MERRICK GARLAND [U.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL]: As the Supreme Court as observed, a core principle of our democracy is that, quote, “voters should choose their representatives, not the other way around.”
CHESKY: The state’s attorney general [Ken Paxton] firing back on Twitter, calling the suit “absurd,” adding he is “confident that our legislature’s redistricting decisions will be proven lawful, and this preposterous attempt to sway democracy will fail.”
According to the DOJ Texas saw a 4 million increase in its population over the previous decade. The majority of the growth has been in Latinos, blacks, and Asians. Two more seats were allocated to Texas in the next congressional election. But, there was not one new district with majority Hispanic and black voters. These two seats now have majority white votes.
VANITA GUPTA [U.S. ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY GENERAL]: Redistricting legislation that was recently passed will not provide minority voters with equal voting rights.
CHESKY: The new redrawn districts were signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott this fall and pave a safer path for the GOP’s majority to stay in power. Ramone Ramiro (Democratic State Rep.) says new maps did a severe disservice to his home district near Fort Worth.
How did you feel when you first saw these new areas?
STATE REP. RAMONE RAMIRO [D-TX]: My Latino surname voter registry went up from 50% to 38%.
CHESKY: It’s part of a national wave of states redrawing their voting maps, many controlled by Republican lawmakers, that could impact next year’s midterm elections and those for years to come.
And right now, the DOJ is asking the courts to prohibit Texas from conducting elections under these challenged plans and they’re also asking the courts to make sure these maps are redrawn. Savannah?
GUTHRIE : Morgan Chesky, it’s all right.
