Naomi Judd, who with her daughter Wynonna formed the tremendously successful country duo The Judds, died Saturday April 30th from what a press release by Wynonna and her sister, actress Ashley Judd, labeled as “mental illness.” Naomi Judd was 76, the Associated Press reports.
In 1983, the debut EP of The Judds was released. This brought them to attention for the first time. Wynonna & Naomi. Its debut single made it into the Country Top 20, but the follow-up “Mama He’s Crazy” became a smash hit, the duo’s first Number One single.
The duo had hit after hit since then. The duo had 14 Number One songs and five Platinum albums over a period of six years, which ended in 1990. They were the only thing stopping The Judds. Naomi received a diagnosis of hepatitis C and was forced to stop their activities in 1991.
Naomi Judd was also born in Ashland Kentucky. Her first husband gave her two children. Wynonna was born in 18 years, Ashley was 22, and Naomi was 25. Naomi took care of the children as her only child and moved with them to California for nursing school. The Judds made it into the music industry when Naomi convinced Naomi’s daughter Naomi, who she had nursed, to visit the house to listen to Wynonna and Wynonna.
They had planned a farewell tour and would be inducted into Country Hall of Fame officially on Sunday, May 1st.
In addition to their exquisite, familial vocal harmonies and skilled mix of traditional with contemporary country, Naomi’s stunning beauty was a focal point during The Judds relatively brief but triumphant career. Naomi showed that being sexy does not have to be about being too suggestive in clothing or behavior. It is all about being yourself.
Naomi Judd, Godspeed
