MSNBC Pushes ‘Bold’ (Obnoxious) Democrat Ads on Abortion, Guns, and Lynching

You can find more information here MSNBC Prime in the “Maddow hour” on Wednesday night, host Ayman Mohyeldin pushed “bold” new ads from Democrat candidates Stacey Abrams and Charles Booker that aim to make Republicans “pay” for extreme positions on issues like abortion, guns and lynching.

After noting The New York Times found guns have been featured in over 100 Republican ads this cycle, Mohyeldin touted “today, we got some of the first general election ads from Democrats in this upcoming cycle and some Democrats appear ready to make Republicans pay a political price for their controversial stances on things like guns and abortion.” They were his! What generosity!

The Stacey Abrams commercial says that Brian Kemp is taking Georgia backwards. Law enforcement said that he had made it more difficult for criminals to possess guns while in public. “He brought us backwards with guns,” he claimed. He rolled back women’s rights, vowing to make abortion a crime with ten years in prison. Brian Kemp continues to push us back just when we are ready for change.

Mohyeldin stated that “It’s rare for Democrats in swing States actively placing guns and abortion at center of their campaigns, but this is as you well know will not be your usual election cycle.”

Then the MSNBC host touted a “bold” new ad from Charles Booker, wearing a noose around his neck and smearing Rand Paul as pretty racist. My opponent is the same person who has compared expanded healthcare to slavery. He also said that he would not have supported the Civil Rights Act. This person was the one who blocked a federal anti-lynching law.

Mohyeldin also had to change the perception. It was a powerful advertisement. We should also note that although Senator Rand Paul actually blocked the anti-lynching legislation last year, this year he supported a smaller version.

Mohyeldin turned then to Cornell Belcher as a Democrat Pollster. He asked him: “Is putting issues like abortion rights and gun control in a swing State like Georgia at the center of Democrat’s campaign smart?” Belcher said “absolutely,” and Democrats have to change the fundamental dynamic of the midterm and they`re not going to do that unless they — unless they get jarring and throw the long ball.”

Belcher insisted suburban moms be influenced “by Democrat messages about women’s right to decide what happens to their body and our ability pass commonsense gun reforms.”

But when Mohyeldin asked if the Democrats should run on the idea that Republicans are going to overturn democracy itself, Belcher turned blunt:  “I’ll say it like this —If the election revolves around Joe Biden, and the main issue is inflation, which is frustrating voters with, Democrats will get their tails kicked. Politics 101 is the key to the success of the debate.
