The national media once more proves that candidates who make bigoted statements are okay as long as the target is not an ineligible minority. Nikki Fried, a regular on MSNBC and a Florida Democrat gubernatorial Candidate, is the latest example.
Fried’s interview with NPR for “Florida Roundup” in which she compared Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Adolf Hitler was controversial. She also claimed that “I saw Hitler rise”. Listen to Fried dismiss GOP-voting Hispanics like gullible morons, who don’t really know what is best for them.
MELISSA ROSS: What’s your appeal to Latin American voters? That population has seen significant progress by the Republican Party.
NIKKI FRIED: And…and that is exactly the point. That’s it? They have been dragged over their eyes with woolIt is not clear what this party of the radical right is doing to them, but the truth is that it is the Democrats standing up for the freedoms and rights they enjoy here in the state, as well as for the opportunities for success in the country. They come here for a better way of life, and instead you have this rhetoric that is coming from the radical right of our state, especially Governor DeSantis, who is doing things that you’ll see that other countries in Latin America have done. This governor is a snob and has attacked businesses who try to decide what’s right.
ROSS: You’re talking about businesses not being allowed to know people’s Covid status or mandate vaccinations. These are just some examples.
FRIED: Things like that, too. He actually took it one step further and held a press conference a few weeks back where he stated that he would eliminate inclusion and diversity training within corporations. It is corporations that have been leading the charge for diversity and inclusion in the workplace over the past few decades.
Fried’s logic states that Hispanics don’t know enough about Latin America to see DeSantis as a strongman. This is evident by DeSantis refusing to let schools impose mask mandates on students or allow HR departments at corporations to send employees to wake propaganda. They can then be manipulated to vote for Republicans through disinformation and propaganda. If a Republican ever said anything similar, imagine what the dudgeon would do. The entire media apparatus would’ve run this story on a loop, with Univision and Telemundo putting it on their A-blocks.
DeSantis made these racist comments, which are perfectly acceptable.
Silence is complicity.
