Media Ignore: Woman With a Handgun Kills a Mass Shooter With an AR

This isn’t the type of story the news media wants you to know about. Charleston woman, West Virginia, saved a massacre by removing the gunman who was apparently armed with an AR-15.

CNN, MSNBC and CNN also ignored the story about the heroic unidentified woman. It was only covered by NewsNation and Fox News. Here’s a brief write-up by the Associated Press:

According to authorities, a West Virginia woman fatally shot an AR-15-style AR-15 rifleman who was trying to fire into people at party.

Police released a statement saying that Dennis Butler (37), was shot and killed at the party.

According to the statement, Butler was killed when the woman who attended the party pulled out a gun and shot him. The party saw no injuries.

According to local Police Lieutenant Tony Hazelett, “Instead of running from the threat, she engaged with the threat and saved several lives last night…. She was lawfully carrying a firearm and stopped a threat. There was a graduation party and a party with kids so obviously someone just graduated high school and we could have had a casualty shooting.” (For more, see The Reload.)

Instead of reporting on such a story, a woman who had a handgun saved many lives. CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King on Wednesday dismissed the Second Amendment as just about “muskets”:

The Second Amendment is still a topic I refer to when we speak about it. The firepower we now have was not what they were referring to. Aren’t there adjustments we can make to accommodate that? Children are our common love and all of us agree that this is horrible. We then go on to say more about how terrible it is, until we get another one. This will continue to happen. It is so hard to do it correctly. It is so difficult to come to terms with the fact that no one should own an assault rifle, unless they are professionals and are fighting on the battlefield. Why don’t we just come to an understanding? It’s not clear to me.

This is King’s favorite talking point. Last week, she huffed, “I keep thinking when the Founding Fathers wrote that they were talking about muskets.”
