Parents aren’t what they used to be.
We’re living in an age of participation trophies.
Kids are told language is violence and disagreement with them is hate. It’s a far cry from the way things used to be.
You may be able to recall times when your parents were difficult. You would have a much worse time at home if you were in trouble at school.
In our enlightened era, folks don’t appreciate their kids being institutionally inconvenienced. People believe that those in power should spare their rods.
But every now and then, there’s evidence of an old-school upbringing.
Such was the case recently in Chicago.
According to crime watch site CWB Chicago on Tuesday 18-year old Zion Brown boarded a train.
Just after the Metra Electric Line transport arrived at Grant Park’s Van Buren Street Station, the youth allegedly pulled out a gun.
Pointing it at the conductor’s stomach, he demanded money.
He pulled $110 from the man’s pockets and departed.
Zion’s gun and Zion were captured on film: Security cameras caught the criminal.
This footage was shown on the evening news.
Incrediblely, even a homeowner recognized the recording of the teen.
It’s no wonder she was sure it was him: He’s her son.
Zion’s own mom busted him.
She realized it was him who tried to rob the train, so she ensured he was taken to police. He was actually driven by her to the station.
It’s not often these days that you see a parent turn in their child.
On occasion, however, lesson-learning is still possible.
Sometimes, cops needn’t even be involved.
Baltimore’s 2015 incident ended in similar fashion. The mother spotted her son in the midst of a riot. He was awarded her participation prize.
Gentlemen and ladies, this is a throwback back to the days of parental guidance.
A good crime story is something everyone enjoys:

Imagine if all parents were like Brutal in Baltimore, or Shake-YouStraight in Chicago.
One thing’s for sure: We’d be living in a very different America.
Zion’s attorneys claim that he used a BB gun to commit his crime.
Furthermore, they claim, he was only thieving because he was hungry and in need of a pre-class snack — he’s a student at Loyola University.
That excuse didn’t go down smoothly with Judge Maryam Aham. As she refused bail, she recalled being a hungry student in her youth.
Zion is still young, naturally. A bright future could be in store for Zion. Here’s to hoping the ambitious adolescent finds it.
If so, his secret success was having a mother who intervened.
