BRIAN WILLIAMS – We got something going on before we leave tonight. You should think about this. We’ve been meeting this way at this same time, this same place for an awful long while. It’s been five years. My 40th anniversary in business will be next year. When I began my career as a journalist, the Earth was actually still cooling. So that got me thinking, which led to me writing something we published earlier tonight. This is how it looks:

After much thought and reflection, after nearly 28 years of service with the company I decided to quit NBC at the end of December. Truly, I feel blessed. It has allowed me to spend nearly half my life working for one company. NBC is a big part of my life and will always be. 28 years, 38 nations, 7 Olympic Games, 7 Presidential elections, half-a dozen presidents and one war. SNL

NBC was blessed with many good friends. It was a blessing that I could be better at my job with everyone who I worked alongside. My colleagues have been the most amazing. Great bosses are a part of that list. When MSNBC launched, I was there. I chose to return many years later, just as launching. The 11th Hour that I’m as proud of as the decade I spent anchoring Nightly News

For the next few months I’ll be with my family, the people I love most, the people who enabled my career to happen. I will be grateful for the kindness that people showed me. I will also reflect and pay it forward.

So that’s all of it, and we get to meet here in this way for a few more weeks. Good news: You get to continue watching. You can keep watching, as I mentioned.
