Liberal PBS Pundit Compares His Hero Liz Cheney to… Obi-Wan Kenobi

Friday is PBS NewsHour,Liberal MSNBC Sunday host Washington PostJonathan Capehart, columnist for The New York Times made this article. Star WarsAn analogy: Liz Cheney to Obi Wan Kenobi and Trump to Darth Vader.

Anchor Judy Woodruff played a Liz Cheney campaign ad, with her dad, former vice president Dick Cheney, attacking Trump as a “coward.” Woodruff said “They don’t come much more conservative than Dick Cheney.”

David Brooks said Liz Cheney was a “hero,” but “if the polls are any way remotely close to what reality is, she’s about to get clobbered….in one of the polls, she was down by 22 percent.” “When you look at the Casper papers she says that one of her biggest beefs, which is not in defense of Donald Trump is that she isn’t paying any attention to Wyoming. She has moved Washington.”

That’s where Capehart came in with his Jedi hero worship:

CAPEHART: She has made it clear that going after — speaking truth to power, not cowering in the face of Donald Trump, even putting her political career on the line, that that is what she’s going to do, because she’s decided that saving American democracy, standing up for the rule of law and the Constitution in the face of a grave threat is much more important than holding elective office in Wyoming.

Look, I think about that scene all the time. Star Wars: Episode IV, WhenObi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader are fighting it out over the Death Star. Obi-Wan tells Darth Vader that if you knock me down I will return more powerful than what you could imagine.

For me Liz Cheney looks like Obi Wan Kenobi. In the event she loses (which she most likely will), she might return more powerful than Donald Trump had hoped. And if her goal is to ensure that he comes — never comes within any manner of feet of the Oval Office, if she can succeed in doing that, she will have done a major service to the American — to the American experiment.

JUDY WOODRUFF – We will be having a Quiz Star Wars the next time we’re together.

DAVID BROOKS: Yes, I do. Marvel Comics will be my next project.

WOODRUFF

Earlier in the segment, both agreed Biden was piling up “impressive achievements” and both felt the Republican primary results showed (as Brooks said)  “the Republicans are doing a phenomenally excellent job of self-sabotaging.”
