Lester Holt’s Fears: Pandemic ‘Feels Like It’s Over’ for Many People

In a taste of their Super Bowl Sunday interview shared on Thursday’s NBC Nightly News, anchor Lester Holt whined to President Biden about blue-state governors “getting ahead of the federal government, the CDC” and lifting their mask mandates before the order came down from on high. Holt said the quiet part out loud when he shared his concern that Americans will get the idea that “this [pandemic] feels like it’s over.”

Out of the many interview subjects discussed, which included Ukraine and inflation among others, the main topic was the pandemic. And Holt’s first question was designed to get Biden to rebuke the Democratic governors lifting mask mandates:

Herr President! In recent days, many blue-state governors have relaxed indoor mask restrictions, effectively assisting the federal government, The CDC. Are these governors right?

Holt did the interview in a mask.

Biden defended the governors by noting most of them weren’t lifting them right away, but rather they set a time frame.

At one point, Holt seemed to refer to Americans collectively getting fed up with having their lives put on hold or destroyed by unelected bureaucrats and politicians as just “Political winds”:

HOLT: Are you able to acknowledge that there is a lack of control and that leaders are bowing to political forces?

BIDEN (Of course): I know. Omicron and its variant, as well as all of their variants, have made a significant impact on American society.

Holt expressed concern about Biden’s suggestion that children be required to wear masks at school.

“But the CDC hasn’t changed its guidance on that,” he said. “And the question with these governors making these moves, does it begin to make the government, the CDC irrelevant, People will choose to listen to advice that is true and relevant to their lives.”

Holt’s apparent final question on the topic was him again pressing Biden to say lifting the restrictions was wrong. “You might be afraid that cities and states are moving at a rapid pace to remove indoor mask regulations,” he wanted to know.

NewsBusters reported that NBC (especially) is reporting this. NBC Nightly News under Holt) has been obsessed with what we call “despair porn.” That’s where they push these destructive and harmful lockdowns, mandates, and other restrictions then gawk and act shocked by how destructive and harmful the policies are.

Holt and Co. have previously decried Republican governors lifting restrictions. They also praised Democrats reimposing restrictions. Then they turn around and pretend concern about child suicides and lines at food banks and all other forms economic hardship that they created.

In December 2020, when many restaurants in California were shut down or struggling, NBCUniversal set up a catering site for a TV production in the parking lot of one such restaurant with special permission from the liberal government in Los Angeles. Then deceptively edited the owner’s emotional video reacting to the hypocrisy.

LESTER HOLT – Mr. President! In recent days, we have seen many governors from blue state get rid of indoor mask regulations, effectively putting the federal government (the CDC) ahead. Is it possible that these governors were wrong

JOE BODEN, PRESIDENT: I don’t know whether or not they’re right. This is the truth: science now says masks work. The masks can make a significant difference. There is also a relationship. There is one governor who I believe draws back right now. And most of them are somewhere in February – I mean, the end of February, March, April, set a time limit. It could have something to do with the fact that Omicron continues to dive in fewer cases.

And – Because there is a relationship between the number of cases you have in your community and the need for wearing masks.

HOLT – Do you recognize, however, that leaders are becoming more oblique and prone to being whipped by the political winds?

BIDEN (Of course): I know. Omicron and its variant, as well as all of their variants, have made a significant impact on American society.

HOLT: Is it appropriate for children to be forced to wear masks at school?

BIDEN: Well, look. Only 46% of schools had opened when I first arrived at the office. Today, 98% of the schools are open. However, they wear masks.

Children are becoming more secure every day. Now, shots are possible for young and under 7-year-old children. The more you have protection, the less often you will need to wear the masks.

HOLT. However, the CDC doesn’t have any changes in its recommendations. The question is, with the governors moving, will it make the government and the CDC less relevant, so that people gravitate to the best advice, because this whole thing feels over?

BIDEN: Well, look. It is one thing to mention masks. It’s confusing. This is worrisome for people. These people are still trying to find the answer. What I have done is make sure that we have the right vaccines, boosters, and protections.

HOLT: Do you worry that certain states or cities may be moving too fast to relax indoor mask regulations?

BIDEN: You know what? It’s — I made a promise that I would adhere to the scientific evidence presented by the CDC, and federal scientists. Although it seems premature, it’s still a difficult call.
