A man whose voice is synonymous with baseball for generations of Dodgers fans (both in Brooklyn and Los Angeles), and for fans of America’s Pastime in general, Vin Scully, has passed away at the age of 94.
The organization announced the sad news via a social media post that was released during the team’s Tuesday night contest against the rival San Francisco Giants.
— Los Angeles Dodgers (@Dodgers) August 3, 2022
It reads:
His voice was the Dodgers’. Their conscience and Poet Laureate, his vision captured their beauty, chronicled their glory, from Sandy Koufax to Jackie Robinson, Kirk Gibson, Clayton Kershaw.
Vin Scully was the heartbeat of the Dodgers – and in so many ways, the heartbeat of all of Los Angeles.
Vin was 94 years old when he died on August 2, 2022.
“We have lost an icon, said Dodger President and CEO Stan Kasten. “The Dodgers’ Vin Scully was one of the greatest voices in all of sports. A giant as both a broadcaster and humanitarian, he was an extraordinary man. He loved people. He enjoyed life. He enjoyed baseball and his Dodgers. His family was his greatest love. We will forever remember his voice and the memories he left. He was eager to be with the woman he loved, Sandi. We send our condolences to his loved ones during these difficult times. Vin will be truly missed.”
As my friend Jon Gabriel says, forget the rest of today’s news. Here’s the latest news.
Taiwan and elections are overrated. Vin Scully is the most important news of the day. RIP, Legend.
