It’s hard to believe that anyone could have predicted such a thing. Well, I did, and we’ll get to that in a minute, but first the background.
Some days ago, CBS News ran a “BREAKING” report asserting that there were gaps in the White House telephone logs from January 6th. Two assertions were made in the story: First, the Trump administration altered call logs. Second, the former president had used a burner phone during this time frame. It was implied that the actions taken were to conceal an organised insurrection directed by Donald Trump.
BREAKING: CBS News and the Washington Post have obtained White House records turned over to the House, which show a gap in President Donald Trump’s phone logs of seven hours and 37 minutes on January 6. https://t.co/52MSlvy5f9

RedState readers may have seen a similar story a month ago. Back in February, the January 6th Committee started leaking about a major revelation involving gaps in the White House’s phone records. You would not have known that there were actually gaps if the media hype was gone at the time. Instead, staff were calling each other and phone records showed that.
With all that in mind, here was my response to CBS News’ big bombshell.
The gambit was tested several months ago. The “gap” is because Trump was using the phones of staffers. But like with the Mueller investigation, when you’ve got nothing, you just keep trying the same plays over and over. https://t.co/pjGJAOoKwT

Yes, it was correct. The New York Times had tried to press the exact same story almost two years ago, but it was repackaged with some wording changes. How can I find out? CNN had to concede on Thursday night that White House call logs were accurate and complete.
This is absurd. Insane. This was the most popular trend on Twitter for just two days. All journalists shared it. It’s all wrong. They do everything wrong. pic.twitter.com/J44UFFrU8o

Note that your intellectual betters in the mainstream press are so vapid that they didn’t bother to consider that the “gap” was simply a result of a fairly rudimentary system (you can get one for your own house) that uses a landline to connect to a cellphone, thus allowing Trump to pick up the landline at his desk after Mark Meadows (or whatever staffer) dialed a number for him on their cellphone.
This was a common tactic used by the other usual suspects.

The White House calls logs are complete without any gaps. Trump was using the phones of staffers because that’s what presidents do. They say “get this person on the phone for me” and then take the call. The January 6th Committee is also available. Already has You can also see the other call logs, which only makes this attempted smear more outrageous and brazen. It also shows how inept the January 6th Committee is. The Committee keeps resorting to falsified insinuations through incomplete leaks, rather than producing any evidence that supports their claim of Trump-organized insurrection.
How is it possible that the media keeps falling for such nonsense? That’s a question better answered by accepting that they aren’t falling for anything. Because no one wants to learn, there aren’t any lessons that can be learned. These lies are intentional.
