On Wednesday night’s Anderson Cooper 360,The host lamented America’s current state, while Trump Republicans continue to challenge the 2020 election results. After a brief look at the tie in Virginia’s governor’s race, the host lamented the state of America. New York TimesThomas Friedman was asked by columnist “How does this party, the Republican Party get so crazy but what about the Democrats? That they aren’t just sweeping up the floor, when they’ve got a huge idea against the Big Lie?”
Friedman said the Democrats have “gone too far left” and are messing up the infrastructure bills: “This is so exciting what they’re trying to sell, and they have so poorly sold it. The question Democrats really need to be asking is: how can we possibly lose so much when we have a huge plan? All they [Republicans]”It is a Big Lie!”
Friedman then turned against Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley and other nihilists.
COOPER : I don’t know if it’s just that we are, you know? In this stuff all day …. I don’t know – I have seen entire societies crumble. This is what I saw up close when I was in Bosnia. This is not a guarantee. It’s possible, but I am not certain. But is that it?
FRIEDMAN – I will raise and see one of you. One of these societies was my home. I lived in Beirut during the civil war. You know what else I witnessed? Politicians after politicians thought they could hack the government and promote conspiracies. All would remain the same, and we would hold our collective breath until they took control. Then they’d do what was right. What did you expect? They did this for 30 years, and it finally fell apart. This is where Beirut stands today. Once it’s broken it’s gone.
It can occur here. It’s not granted that this government can do anything. This government is made up of people and their norms. When those who support these laws and institutions start to abandon them, the system can be dissolved. It is not possible to tell these lies repeatedly to get to power and think that the system will work for you.
These Republicans have Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley as leaders. They are willing to take down this country as long as it is president. They’re just doing it. They are fine as long they can preside over the rubble.
Cooper mysteriously stated: “And, you know what? I mean, those individuals, when society begins turning on itself it turns against them also. As if they believe they were Harvard students or other prestigious universities. When things get out of control, it spins the wheel pretty fast.”
Do you think this sounds like something that a moderate could do?
