The NY Post was told by Kevin McCarthy, House Minority Leader, that they would ask intelligence agency personnel to reveal what information they had about Hunter Biden. If they don’t come in voluntarily he said, they’d be subpoenaed.
“They should come in and talk to us,” McCarthy said in an exclusive sitdown with The Post. “You’d want to ask these individuals what did they know and when.
“People can come in and talk to us and answer the questions. If that’s not the case there are times we will use the subpoena as well,” he added.
51 former intelligence agency officials — including James Clapper, the former Director of National Intelligence, and John Brennan, former CIA Director, both under Barack Obama — signed a letter claiming that Hunter’s laptop had “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.” They also said this looked like an effort to “influence how Americans vote in this election.” They had no evidence to support that claim, but they put it out there anyway, themselves influencing the election. We reported previously that President Donald Trump employed attorneys to pursue a range of legal actions against the authors of the letter.
In March, the NY Post reached all of those individuals to question their motivations. The majority ignored the Post inquiry. However, some attempted to spin as James Clapper.
“Yes, I stand by the statement made AT THE TIME. … I think sounding such a cautionary note AT THE TIME was appropriate,” Clapper said.
“You would want to ask these individuals first of all, ‘Would you still sign the letter today, and who asked you to sign the letter and why did you sign the letter, and what information did you have prior?’” McCarthy said. “Why did you feel comfortable — especially with your own reputations — that you would sign that letter? Did it come from someone else? [Biden]Campaign who asked? Or was it the people within the intel community that did so?
“I think these questions have to be answered. You cannot allow an intel community to utilize their name in an improper way without correcting,” McCarthy said.
They need to have their feet held to the fire and if they don’t come across, shamed and stripped of any further access to intel.
The GOP is poised to take over the House in November and they’ve promised to get to the bottom of a lot of the issues in the Hunter Biden mess, as well as the politicization of the FBI.
“We are going to ask the tough questions and if we don’t get the honest answers, there’s consequences,” McCarthy said. He explained that they had already sent out 500 “preservation letters” to make sure that they weren’t destroying the evidence they wanted. “We have a responsibility of oversight,” he declared.
They do. Or we should fire them.
