Democrats are attacking the Supreme Court, with people like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) declaring that the Court is “illegitimate” and calling for people to get out in the “streets.” Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) even said it explicitly — that they should “defy” the decision of the Court. Talk about ‘insurrection’ and throwing norms right out the window. This is the exact same group that rioted for three hours on Jan. 6.
Mike Miller, my colleague wrote about Nancy Pelosi’s comments today by the House Speaker (D-CA), regarding the SCOTUS decision on abortion that was made Friday. This ruling overturned Roe. Pelosi attacked the Court in her remarks, calling them the “radical Supreme Court” and “Republican-controlled Supreme Court.”

Remember before Joe Biden, when we all used to understand that you have to accept the decision of the Court–even if you don’t like it? Now, the Democrats want to destroy that standard, declaring it equivalent to her Republican counterparts. We know what she says about them.
Pelosi’s misleading remarks included falsely claiming the SCOTUS decision means that justices will soon take away contraception rights. However, the majority stated in their unanimous decision that they had no other rights or issues and it was only applicable to abortion.
Justice Clarence Thomas made a reference to the other ‘privacy’ issues in his concurrence, but Pelosi is erroneously interpreting what he said (we’ll have a great breakdown from my colleague Susie Moore on that subject, also).
But Pelosi makes it clear why she’s lying — to jack up the anger. “They cannot be allowed to have a majority in the Congress.”
That’s what these lies are about — to whip up the base to come out for the Democrats, regardless of how much she might undermine the Court.
Even folks on the left weren’t buying it.
Pelosi argues the Supreme Court’s landmark abortion ruling should be a reason for us to vote for democrats in midterm. This is ZERO irony, as democrats hold the house, senate, and oval.

Jonathan Turley, a George Washington University professor of law, spit on the claims.
Pelosi has just made the false claim, that this will now reverse cases in contraception or other areas. That is simply untrue and the Court expressly addressed that false claim in the opinion…

…The majority rejects that claim and notes that “perhaps this is designed to stoke unfounded fear that our decision will imperil those other rights.” Having the Speaker refer to the next election despite the express statement to the Court seems to reaffirm that view.

Anyone spreading this lie was falsely called out by the Court. Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden were both referred to the courtesy line. Pelosi was also echoed and Biden said Roe was on the November ballot.
…The justices specifically chastise those who are pushing this claim as part of an effort “designed to stoke unfounded fear that our decision will imperil those other rights.” …

…President Biden just again referred to other rights that are now endangered like the right to marriage and contraception. But, the Court explicitly stated that this opinion will not have any impact on these rights.

Meanwhile, AOC claimed that not only should they pack the Court but that “we need to acknowledge that the Supreme Court of the United States has very few checks and balances.”
Yes, that’s a feature, not a bug. It’s by design, which she should know if she had even a little bit of understanding about the Constitution and how our government is supposed to work. They aren’t supposed to be subject to terms, elections, or political whims. That’s why they get lifetime tenure. “Checks” would be during the appointment and the hearing, as well as impeachment–if it ever got to that.
AOC however wants their decisions to be free from the constraints of the Constitution.
…”How much does the current structure benefit us? And I don’t think it does.” Those views are not just pre-Marbury but pre-constitutional.
