Florida Man is an entire mood.
We’re all used to the “weird news” coming out of Florida. A woman arrested for shaving her private parts…while driving. Unemployed man in desperate need of a Hooters ride calls 911 to get help. A dude who parked his smart car in his kitchen so it wouldn’t blow away in a hurricane (Is this whacky or brilliant? This is the moment to make that call.
It’s a late night show punchline at this point. As an aside, one of the reasons we always see these stories coming out of Florida is because they don’t enact the same restrictions on media when it comes to arrests and reporting. Florida offers the best stories because it has the largest freedom to tell them.
There are also the alligator wrestlers and mosquitoes. There’s a lot about Florida that lends itself to meme-ing. That’s okay. It’s all in good fun. However, we must not get too excited about the unique qualities of these states. Sunshine State is on the right track to become America’s seat for culture and education.
Most people around the globe and most Americans consider Los Angeles or New York their seat. This is a good decision. But the pandemic began to shift those populations. The intellectuals, the successful artists, the cocktail party set..they are the people with the means to pick up and move when things get dicey, and they’ve been doing just that. What have they done?
Florida! Both New York City and California lost so many people that they lost their congressional seats. This was the first ever in California history. Not only are the statistics clear, but the governors of New York and California have been spending much of their time denigring Florida. New York’s Governor Kathy Hochul recently took the very somber occasion of a Holocaust education event to land a terrible joke on behalf of Jewish people against Governor DeSantis.
Just a quick note to New York’s 1.77 Million Jews: I am grateful to you for making New York your home. Don’t go anywhere or to another state. Florida is overrated. I shouldn’t say this, but look at the governor. It begins at the top.
Do you need help?
Hochul is acutely aware of the fact that New York City has been losing its brain trust. Those people aren’t moving to Los Angeles because they want a better lifestyle. They’re moving to Florida for a bigger life, an easier life, a more prosperous life; and with them goes their degrees, their businesses, their taxes, their intellect, their children, their votes, their projects, their tastes…on and on and on. Florida is a place where culture thrives.
Education is also being flooded from the elite areas of the coasts. Although schools were shut down in American major cities, schools in Florida remain open. Teachers are still employed. Children continue to learn. DeSantis offers an incentive package which temporarily waives certification requirements to allow veterans to continue their education while they work. The Florida children are far ahead of Americans, although it could take five to ten more years for it to become a reality.
Disney has begun to move many of its executives to Florida. All those individuals are bringing their culture and tastes with them. While the state hasn’t reached the popularity level of Georgia when it comes to welcoming the entertainment industry, they are well equipped to host more and more film and arts projects. The state’s weather and tax structure are favorable. Housing is also more affordable. Universal Studios and Disney have already made available studios to film at the parks.
The brain trust is changing even among conservative culture. Los Angeles was once a place where big-shot conservatives could visit to network and interact with one another, embedded within the glamour and grime that liberal Hollywood offered. Ben Shapiro The Daily WireHe is a native Angeleno and has settled in Florida. His organization actively engages in entertainment and news reporting. He’s recently been joined by Dave Rubin (who brought his recording studio and growing tech empire with him) and popular (and wickedly intelligent) commentator Karol MarkowiczRecently, she moved all her family from New York City to the area. Karol, who is Jewish, apologises to Governor Hochul. Kat, another one is following your lead!
While all of the apparatuses of cultural exchange were shut down in the traditional cultural centers of America — movies, restaurants, museums, public squares — Florida was raging on. The people never stopped sharing their ideas, creating and selling. While the rest of humanity lay in dormancy, their culture exploded forward.
Our beloved Florida Man stories will be told as they are, so we’ll continue to enjoy them. But don’t be so quick to laugh at our Sunshine State sidekicks. Although it may be a while before the shocking results of America’s shutdown, Florida continuing to accept cultural activities could shock the liberal elites. It is possible that Florida’s culture will soon be the American standard.
Personally, I can’t wait.
