Biden Gets Confronted With ‘Kids in Cages’ Photo From Obama Era — His Reaction Goes Viral

Joe Biden was confronted during an interview Friday night with the Obama administration’s record of holding migrant children in cages at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Univision News anchor Jorge Ramos took issue with a statement Biden made at a Democratic presidential debate in September that “we didn’t lock people in cages.” He then showed Biden, former President Barack Obama’s vice president, that a photo of young boy being held in a cage in 2014.

“You actually did,” Ramos said of Biden’s claim. “We found a picture of an 8-year-old boy from Honduras.”

Biden — who has often condemned the Trump administration’s immigration policies in moralistic terms on the campaign trail — defended Obama’s record. He claimed the children they detained were unaccompanied and were held in cages for their own safety.

“Yes, and what happened was all the unaccompanied children were coming across the border,” Biden said. “We tried to get them out, we kept them safe, and get them out of the detention center … and get them into communities as quickly as we can.”

Biden, whose 2020 presidential bid is faltering, then accused Ramos of lying by comparing Obama’s treatment of migrants to Trump’s.

“You know you’re not telling the truth here,” Biden said. “Look how quickly we got them out and got them back to families … we sought to get them into safe communities. We sought to get them out of the control of the [Department of ] Homeland Security.”

A video of the exchange posted to Twitter on Saturday has been viewed nearly 1 million times.

Jorge Ramos isn’t the first person to fact-check Joe Biden and the Dems

Democrats and liberal activists have repeatedly sought to use photos of migrant children detained during Obama’s presidency to illustrate the supposed immorality of Trump. In fact, Trump only expanded on a practice pioneered by Obama and former President George W. Bush before him.

After an Obama era photo of “kids in cages” in May 2018, The Associated Press published a fact-check, saying: “Whether they are called prison cells or something else, Obama held children in temporary, ill-equipped facilities and built a large center in McAllen, Texas, that is used now.”

“Democrats routinely and inaccurately blame Trump for creating ‘cages’ for children. They are actually referring to chain-link fencing inside the McAllen center – Obama’s creation,” the report continued. “Conditions for detained migrants deteriorated sharply during a surge of Central American arrivals under Trump, particularly in El Paso, Texas.”
