It’s Christmas, and We’ve Never Needed Peace on Earth More – Opinion

Merry Christmas. Around the world, it’s a day of children, innocence, love, life, and family.

My greatest wish for Christmas Day is that the world remembers just how precious those things really are.

They’re more important than politics. They’re superior to social media. They outperform social media, including the news and all the stuff we fight over throughout the year.

Some may say those are what we’re fighting for, but if communities the nation over would put them first, there’d be a very different America.

Presently, we’re living in a time of war.

And unlike the ones we’ve fought in the past, this one — or these many — don’t offer any clear prospect of a ceasefire.

Betsy Ross could sew a flag to represent an argument today.

Online, people make sport of “owning” their opponents by one-upped insults. What good is that?

On the internet, the riots match those on the streets. We have adopted chaos and brutality as our normal.

When not on our phones, we’re navigating a fractured and suffering society.

Politics has won over friendships in the last few years. There have been many deaths of loved ones in families.

We’re supposed to know better — that’s one reason we’ve annually hailed “Peace on Earth.”

But there isn’t peace — not in many homes, not in many towns, not in a country that once proclaimed itself united under God.

We need to turn the tide. What can we do to end war?

It is essential to start from within. We’re at war with the very essence of what we are:Creations.

Rather than focusing on our blessings, we try to proclaim ourselves in control — we’re “empowered,” we’re prideful, we’re magical.

But we’re not. In our narcissism, we’ve become weak. The same who tout empowerment decry the “violence” of opposing ideas.

It is my hope that we will find inner peace. Maybe the key to this is: UltimateWhat Christmas really is all about.

If we can truly find the heart of Christmas — the gift from God, just as every life is — we can find humility.

And in doing so, perhaps we will make peace — with our friends; with our neighbors; with our families. And with ourselves.

If we love others, it is fulfilling. Giving is a way to make others better. We can trust, hope, and fear when we recognize that there’s something greater than we are.

Uncertainty is the future. It is difficult to live, but it is possible to feel pain.

We can’t overcome it. We can’t outpower it. However, we can have faith in a God who can.

A hope can bring us all together.

It is possible to cling tightly to our families while protecting our children.

One way to keep them safe is to teach them they’re loved.

Not just for us.

You love them and embrace them with something greater, which is what Christmas is all about.

This is Christmas. This is Christmas.

In truth, all of us are children.

This is Christmas.

It is in our childhood-like hearts that I believe we can all discover it.

While we’re there, may we pray for Peace on Earth.
