It seems that the Democratic Party’s grip on Hispanic voters is loosening up and members of this critical voting bloc are slipping through the party’s fingers. The left faces many challenges as people from other backgrounds who were loyally aligned with them are now starting to question their affiliation.
A study conducted by Catalist, a political firm working with Democratic candidates, showed that Hispanics swung in former President Donald Trump’s favor in 2020 more so than it did in 2016. Trump’s support for Hispanics increased by eight points. This is an impressive jump. It seems that this group is growing concerned about the Democrats taking it for granted.
The Washington Examiner reported:
In a survey this year by Equis Research, a firm that specializes in research on the Latino electorate, key majorities in 11 battleground states agreed with the statement that “Democrats take Hispanics for granted. They want our votes but forget about us when it comes time to deliver.”
The statement was believed to be convincing by 54% of registered voters, and it was agreed upon by 57% middle-class voters. The statement was most popular with those who prioritize immigration, 69%.
In Virginia’s gubernatorial election in November, Governor-elect Glenn Youngkin scored a 12-point lead over Terry McAuliffe. “One year earlier, exit polls showed Trump’s share of the Latino vote from 2016 to 2020 grew by six points,’ according to The Examiner.
President Joe Biden’s numbers with Hispanics have been on the decline since he took office and it does not appear he has a plan to win them back. The ExaminerAlso, note:
The President Joe Biden’s inability to stop the bleeding so far has been disappointing. He won Hispanic voters with 63% in 2020. However, recent polls have shown that his support has dropped to 43% in the last month, and that 46% of Hispanic voters disapprove of him.
According to a Wall Street Journal poll, Latino voters were equally split in the hypothetical Trump-Biden face-off in 2024. 44% supported Biden, 43% supporting Trump.
Sasha Tirador, a Democratic consultant in Florida, told Examiner that the Democrats “can expect a good old-fashioned beatdown if they don’t get it together and acknowledge that the Hispanic trends in other states will mimic that of the Hispanics in Florida.”
They are also allowing Republicans to win in South Florida by not paying attention to conservative-leaning South Florida voters, according the consultant. “They aren’t ‘Latinos’ from California, they are ‘Hispanics’ from Florida,” she pointed out, noting that the same strategy that works for California Latinos is not as effective with those in Florida.
A survey conducted by the Democracy Fund Voter Study Group after the 2020 election indicated that over 70 percent of Hispanic voters prioritized jobs, the economy, and the COVID-19 pandemic as “very important” issues. These issues are where Democrats fail the most. This is yet another indication that Democrats may be in for some serious shaming during the midterm elections.
The Examiner noted:
Latinos said they had a negative outlook on the economy, with 63% believing it was headed in the wrong direction, compared to 25% who had a favorable view, a gap of 38 percentage points, according to the Wall Street Journal’s recent poll. According to them, Republicans were the most prepared for economic problems, such as inflation and reining back the federal deficit. Border security issues also favored Biden’s opponents amid a surge in illegal migration into southern U.S. states.
Also, it is worth noting that Hispanics are likely to be disillusioned with the Democrats’ far-left progressive party wing. The fact that many still refer to them as “Latinx” — despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of Latinos do not identify themselves that way — is proof positive that the left is growing even more out of touch with the voters they seek to court.
Hispanics seem to be seeing, just like all others, the numerous failures that the Democrats have had and they are beginning to lose faith in the party. Not only Biden will be affected by this trend but all candidates seeking to maintain their current position or gain new elections. The Democrats have over 10 months left to keep everything a mess, so it is almost certain that Republicans will lose more votes if they manage their game well.
