Adele was caught out for being too proud to be female the other day.
Brandon Morse (my colleague) explained how the Artist of The Year was attacked by trans activists online, even though she didn’t say anything at all about the trans community or the issue except that she just loves being a women.
Is Adele adamant that the transgender community is a hateful group? No. Did she say that women are women and men can’t be women? Nope. The accusation is that by Adele saying she likes being a woman, she’s implying all sorts of negative things about transgenderism.
This is a ridiculous take by ridiculous people, who seem to be more concerned about finding an excuse to feel victimized than living in the real world and taking people’s words as they are.
It is absurd. Adele commented on womanhood as she was awarded Artist of the year at the Brit Awards. It is an award that used to be gendered – there was a Male Artist of the Year and Female Artist of the Year, but the two were combined into one award. Adele won out over all other artists, both men and women. That’s a huge honor and as a woman in a still largely male-dominated industry, that’s amazing.
But because she said “I understand why the name of this award has changed but I really love being a woman and being a female artist,” she apparently had to be dragged online. It’s completely nonsensical.
This is a positive thing. If they are this upset over these comments, then they clearly aren’t winning the culture war after all.
You don’t lose your mind and call a successful woman a “TERF” (Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist) over those comments if you’re winning the social war. You don’t pull your hair out over jokes like Dave Chapelle’s if you are. You don’t go on a years-long crusade against J.K. Rowling, arguably the most successful female writer of all time, if you’re winning.
The entertainment and media industries, along with progressive activists have been working overtime to try to convince all of America that it’s all normal and okay and that you’re a transphobe if you question anything about the overly-aggressive trans movement. If you are concerned about men competing in women’s sports (not even against it, just questioning of it), you are a vile human being. If you are worried about men using women’s restrooms, you’re a paranoid jerk.
Although society is more resistant than accepting, it seems that overall the population remains more cautious than accepting. These activists do not want society to be evil. It is untested but in many ways still worrisome. They are trying to get society to accept gender identity conversations with elementary students. The other problems are also important.
That they are freaking out over Adele’s comments, despite her not even mentioning the trans community or trans issues, is a sign that they aren’t in the majority. Binary sex is what they are frightened of. They are worried that if the most influential celebrities are speaking in binary terms, then they won’t be able to become the majority.
This terrifies them beyond measure. Their insane reaction is evident.
