There have been many articles about Harry Reid’s passing that caused a lot of head scratching and, at times, a lot of cringing. Ultimately when someone passes it’s indeed appropriate to look back on their accomplishments and as Senate Leader, he certainly was impactful. Also, I’ll give credit where it is due. We didn’t have to suffer through the media for his week-long ceremony.

However, it was the reactions of the key people in the community that made me want to write a few observations.

For example, Harry Reid was referred to as a “conservative” by Yahoo News before that was quickly changed. The simple mistake highlights how far leftism has advanced if Reid is still considered a conservative. He was the same guy who understood how to deal and didn’t take no prisoners. He was a tireless advocate for liberal left and was very strategic in his pursuit of it. He was in no way a moderate, and certainly not a conservative.

It is more realistic to say that it shows how superficial most analyses are. Many political commentators don’t even know the issues. “Conservative” or “liberal” are therefore loaded terms and people might have taken a shallow part of his profile such as the fact he was Mormon to make that quick judgment. This is still foolish, and it lacks nuance.

The average American doesn’t even care about political figures. Some people believe DC is Hollywood for the unattractive. While they don’t care about Harry Reid, they also didn’t care about John McCain.

However, the people in power act as if everyone else does. In fact, that’s the main part of the problem. To break out of the echo chamber, which is the political geek community, it took AOCs to be a member on the Democratic side. Slightly. Although they are the leaders of the party, Harry and Nancy Pelosi don’t get much attention outside of the political arena. Donald Trump is feared because of this. His message did get through to many groups — especially minorities  — outside the politically engaged. Now they are showing a shift to his Republican Party version over time. Harry Reid wasn’t transformational in this regard so it seems contrived to write about him.

But that’s the issue with the modern left. Many people are so against God that they believe government is their God. However, it is clear that those who prefer to ignore nuance and remain indifferent when it comes to approaching issues will vote Democrat. It has now affected us at gas pumps and in the many cultural wars that the woke are trying to get us into, while distracting from the blessings we’ve enjoyed for more than a century, making us discontented despite all the benefits.

People are more offended if Harry Reid is referred to in this way by Democratic Beltway people as a transformative leader who had enormously positive effects. Because it’s fake.

So I simply urge everyone to lay off the drama, quit being extra, and let’s be real about Harry Reid — a technocrat, wheeler and dealer, who had a long career in government. Perhaps he lasted longer than he should. He is now at peace. My sympathies go to his family.
