Insane Video Shows Flash Mob Raiding 7-Eleven – Opinion

The Harbor Gateway section of Los Angeles was ravaged by a mob of looters Monday. This is the destruction occurred after a crowd had already engaged in a “street takeover” a mile and a half away where joyriders blocked the streets and drove recklessly while spectators looked on.

It was an hour or so later that a mob—presumably people coming from the street takeover looking for more entertainment—raided the 7-Eleven. The LAPDReleased this amazing video:

You feel like you are watching sharks feed in an euphoric frenzy.

Perhaps the looters were celebrating the defeat of the Recall Gascón effort? I’m just being snarky—there is no evidence to support that, but they might as well party it up. Life for criminals has been a whole lot easier since “progressive” LA County District Attorney George Gascón’s arrival, and it looks like that’s going to continue now that it looks like he won’t be removed from office.

It all started with a street takeover in Los Angeles, which is a regular occurrence. According to LA Daily News:

Motorists flooded the intersection and blocked traffic with their vehicles from all directions to create a ‘pit’ in the middle of the intersection,” police said in a statement. “During the incident, spectators exited their vehicles and watched as motorists recklessly drove in a maneuver known as ‘doing donuts.’

It seems that no one told them August is National Traffic Safety Awareness Month. A crowd gathered at the 7-Eleven near the intersection of Figueroa Street & El Segundo Boulevard, perhaps looking for donuts of a different type. According to police, the following was their description of the scene.

The looters were seen in the shop’s video surveillance, grabbing everything they could find, including cigarettes, lottery tickets, snacks and drinks. The looters vandalized and even threw merchandise at staff. They fled the shop to nearby streets and parking lots, where they were quickly expelled by police.

Authorities hope to find at least some looters because they were all captured on video. Recent attacks on the 7-Eleven store have repeatedly targeted its locations. Two hoodlums ran a looting rampage across six stores over the course of one night in July. They also killed two other people. Two men engaged in a gunfight at the Montebello 7-Eleven. The situation is so out of hand that the company encouraged its franchises to modify their hours, saying in a July statement:  “Right now, our focus is on franchisee, associate, and customer safety. With that in mind, we encouraged stores in the Los Angeles area to close overnight.”

In Los Angeles, street takeovers are commonplace. My secret bunker is located in San Fernando Valley and I can hear the revving engines and tires squealing. After opening the $588 million 6th Street Bridge in July, it was embarrassed. It was then repeatedly overtaken by mobs of drivers or people lighting fireworks. According to official estimates, it would cost $704,000 annually just to get rid of all this graffiti. The authorities were unable to manage the situation and had to often close down the bridge. The authorities are now installing high-priced speedbumps. Let me propose another suggestion: why not arrest the people involved?

People often tell me that reports of crime are overstated and that everything’s just the way it’s always been, and folks who talk about it are being hysterical and reactionary. That’s what 7-Eleven owners should hear.

Now that progressive DA George Gascón looks to be staying in power, don’t expect the mayhem to stop anytime soon.
