INSANE: MSNBC Host Thinks DeSantis Wants to Codify White Supremacy by Banning CRT

MSNBC is well-known for their insane and vulgar commentary that occurs almost every day. However, this may be one of its most bizarre comments. During a segment on MSNBC’s “The Beat With Ari Melber”, fill-in host Jason Johnson discussed Governor Ron DeSantis’ (R-FL) support of legislation that would ban Critical Race Theory in public schools in Florida.

Johnson claimed that the proposed legislation titled the “Stop Woke Act” is DeSantis’ “new effort to codify white supremacy for political gain”.

While it is perfectly normal to have disagreements on matters of public policy, what isn’t okay is conjuring up false motives to smear your political opponents. Johnson did exactly that. Every rational person would think banning Critical Race Theory, a racist and antihistorical teaching agenda, is a way to reinforce white supremacy.

Johnson also repeated the lie that CRT isn’t an influence in public schools and that it’s merely a graduate-level course. There have been many examples of the tenants of Critical Race Theory being taught to children and applied in public schools across the nation. One such example occurred in Philadelphia where fifth-grade students were forced “to celebrate ‘black communism’ and simulate a Black Power rally in honor of political radical Angela Davis.”

Jason Johnson is not interested in any of these things. The narrative on MSNBC matters more to them than anything else. Johnson wasn’t alone though, he brought on his panel to join him in spewing crazy conspiracy theories and strawman arguments against DeSantis.

Howard University Professor Niambi Carter, Associate at Howard University, accused DeSantis to wanting to “stoke white fears and raise anxiety levels to win elections.” Juanita Tolliver, a Democratic strategist, said that “racist people and parents in Florida are going to be suing every school, every teacher, every school district” who dares to apply CRT in school.

Johnson, Carter, and Tolliver know what they are saying isn’t true. They can read the entire Stop Woke Act text and see that their claims are completely false. Ironically, what they’re accusing DeSantis is doing is inflaming racial grievances to gain political power.

JASON JOHNSON (GUEST HOST): Critics accusing Florida’s MAGA Governor Ron DeSantis of combining vigilante-style justice with right-wing culture wars, in a new effort to codify white supremacy for political gain. DeSantis proposes a law to allow parents to sue schools for teaching critical race theory. This framework is designed to help students understand racism at a graduate level. The Texas law against abortion allows residents to sue the providers. Critics claim that this is race-baiting political play, since no evidence exists of Florida schools teaching critical race theory. Florida Board of Education had already banned critical race theory. DeSantis made the announcement at an event that was campaign-style. He tossed hats in the crowd, and quoted MLK. But let’s be honest, no one likes quoting MLK more than folks who know they’re wrong from Aaron Rogers to Ted Cruz, and now Ron DeSantis.

GOVERNORRON DESANTIS – When we think of MLK, we see that he believed people should not be judged by their skin colour but rather their character. Some of the people you hear today don’t speak about this.

[Cuts back to live]

JOHNSON. DeSantis called the measure, quote: Stop Woke Act. Bernice King, MLK’s daughter blasting the misuse of the word woke to deter the fight against injustice. Florida Congresswoman Frederica Wilson ripping the Florida Governor’s lies, lies, lies, and more lies. Some call it racist dog whistle. Whatever it is, it’s part of a growing right-wing trend. MAGA has made anti-CRT laws a campaign issue. Eight states have passed them. DeSantis now raising the stakes with a vigilante solution as opposed to say I don’t know looking out for kids’ test scores, graduation rates, or COVID cases. Howard University Associate Professor of Politics Dr. Niambi Carter is joining me. I don’t think she teaches critical race theory. Juanita Tulliver, Democratic strategist and MSNBC Contributor.

Um, Dr. Carter, I, look, I tend to avoid what I think are unnecessary conversations about critical race theory, cause I don’t want to give oxygen to bad-faith actors, but I want to ask you, as an actual educator, who’s in the classroom, and you teach at an HBCU, how many of your incoming freshmen students have some deep, intense knowledge of critical race theory. Do you know of any student that understands this concept when they arrive at university?

NIAMBI CARTER (Not really). I mean it’s not taught widely and I think this conversation is really using critical race theory to be a catchall for anything that makes white people uncomfortable, quite frankly. I mean, we know that CRT is a very specialized theory, it’s usually done by legal practitioners. Jason even said that CRT is not a part of graduate school. This is just smoke and mirrors for Ron DeSantis’s purpose, to stoke fears among whites and increase anxiety to win elections. We know that he is running to reelection. All this was to build the base. And the fact that he kept throwing hats in the final, let us know it’s all just political theater. These are not things of substance. This is going to really chill academic freedom in Florida.

JOHNSON. Juanita. They want to bring in this Stop Woke Act. And DeSantis says, hey, you know, critical race theory is being driven by elites, it’s being driven by elites. Let me ask, then, who is this mysterious elite that drives critical race theory? He says it’s corporate elites, he says it is pop culture elites. I didn’t notice Dr. Ibram Kendi jumping into schools and forcing-feeding children the 1619 Project. It’s possible I forgot that part. Right? They’re now asking who these elites are. Are they just trying to scare blacks into talking too much?

JUANITA TOLLIVER : Jason, you named it. They aren’t ready to hear the truth. As the professor pointed out, anything that makes white people feel uneasy is what they are going to grab on to. You can be sure that parents and racists in Florida will sue every teacher, school district, school school they can, without any evidence. This whole charade is happening without evidence. I think it’s also evident that the Republicans look at Glenn Youngkin’s victory in Virginia and are like that’s our playbook. Another lie we can tell that will resonate with white voters, and in certain cases even welcome them back into the GOP. What we witnessed in Virginia was that 57% of white female voters voted Youngkin. This is a 13.-point swing back for the GOP following the loss of so many women under Trump’s rule during the 2018 midterms. They are now coming back to the party, because they see this, and they’re like, oh well, I need to protect my child when in reality they’re just embracing a new form of white supremacy and racism.
