Hollywood Town Shells out Universal Basic Income — but You Have to Say You’re LGBTQIA – Opinion

“Universal Basic Income” has gotten quite the prominent press over the past few years. We still don’t have full communism.

They are trying, however.

The Sun reports that just 20 American cities have begun to explore the concept, with West Hollywood joining them.

WeHo.com reported that the city is starting a pilot program to guarantee income.

The city will give $1,000 each month from April 2022 through September 2023 — a total of $17,000 over 17 months — to 25 randomly selected residents who sign up for the program. …

Mayor Lauren Meister, and Lindsey Horvath (ex-mayor/current Councilmember) have participated in the Mayors for Guaranteed Income Coalition. This coalition is a group of mayors across the country who run guaranteed income pilots.

When Lindsey joined the maverick group of mayoral candidates last year (now-mayor), enthused over equity:

To address significant economic inequality and instability, we are delighted to be a part of Mayors for Guaranteed Income. West Hollywood has made it a priority to take care of the most vulnerable. In this moment of increased health and economic impact, we need to make sure we have every resource available to help our neighbors. This important work will be explored further by MGI, its experts partners and thought leaders.

As for the ins and outs of funding, WeHo’s partnering with the nonprofit National Council of Jewish Women/LA.

It’s an amazing opportunity, but if you’re just now chomping at the bit, here’s a tough pill to swallow: The application period closed March 6th.

Even so, provided everything goes well, surely we’ll see a second round.

‘Til then, get your qualifications in order. You only need to meet four criteria in order to get your monthly nut.

Receiptees should:

  • West Hollywood is your place to live
  • At least 50 years of age
  • A minimum of $41,000 in annual income
  • Recognize yourself as LGBTQIA

So if you’re straight, you’re on the wrong side of the rainbow for that portly pot of gold. But if you’re craving free cash, are old, broke, live in WeHo and are gay…you’re straight.

Many people have spoken out in favor of encouraging others to sign up for the alternative alphabet. What contribution might such an opportunity for unearned cash make? “No” doesn’t seem the obvious answer.

But faking it doesn’t have to be hard. Let’s not forget that the letters can stand for:

  • L = Lesbian
  • G stands for Gay
  • B means Bisexual
  • T = Transgender
  • Q = Queer
  • A= Asexual

If I properly understand, no one can say what a “woman” or “man” necessarily is. Therefore, without altering anything, a cisgender citizen can easily transform into “trans.” As for “asexual,” one can simply claim nothing turns them on. The “I” regards a birth anomaly, but I can’t imagine the city asking applicants to show proof.

It is possible to place it if your identity hurdle seems low. But what’s more interesting: getting $1,000 free every four weeks.

All West Hollywood RedState readers, for now and into the future: Best wishes.
