The Washington PostIt was discovered that Taylor Lorenz, the in-house crybully Taylor Lorenz stoleth edited an attack-the right story. However, NewsGuard has given it a perfect rating.
NewsGuard offers current rates The Post with a stellar “100/100” score, and claims the leftist paper “adheres to all nine of NewsGuard’s standards on Credibility and transparency.” The score hasn’t budged since news broke that Lorenz falsely claimed she contacted two YouTube content creators (ThatUmbrellaGuy and LegalBytes) for comment in a smear piece smacking them for making money from their YouTube coverage of the infamous court trial between actor Johnny Depp and actress Amber Heard. BothYoutube influencers are passionate disputed Lorenz’s claim that she contacted them for comment before publication, but The Post stealth-edited the article in an apparent attempt to hide the fact that Lorenz didn’t reach out to them, while claiming she had. Joseph Wulfsohn was the Fox News Digital reporter who originally reported about the stealth edit. [Emphasis added.]
The story was treated by editors with numerous edits and updates. The latest update was a big, fat “Editor’s Note” plastered at the top of Lorenz’s piece, admitting that editors originally edited the story without notation following Fox News’s request for comment:
This story incorrectly stated that ThatUmbrellaGuy and Alyte Mazeika, both Internet influencers, had been reached out for comments before publication. In truth, Mazeika only was reached via Instagram. The Post published the story and continued seeking comment from Mazeika via Instagram. They also queried ThatUmbrellaGuy the first time. That was the beginning of that entire process. The Post removed an incorrect statement but didn’t note it, violating our corrections policy. Updated to clarify that Mazeika refused to comment and ThatUmbrellaGuy was unable to be reached. In an earlier version, this story misattributed a quote from Adam Waldman. Waldman is a Johnny Depp attorney. It described how Depp contacted Internet influencers. The quote has now been removed.
But Mazeika in a tweet disputed the content in the “Editor’s Note:”
What?! @washingtonpost, I’ll say it AGAIN. After my tweet, @TaylorLorenz did not reach out to me for comment. She reached me via IG DM after she made the same tweet. After I had called her here, both DMs were sent. You must stop lying.
Fox News reports that Lorenz sent a direct message to Mazeika via Instagram. The time stamp shows she reached out to her after the story was published.
Meanwhile, The Post still boasts green marks on a number of NewsGuard’s phony journalistic criteria. Here’s a few that The Post passed with flying colors, according to NewsGuard’s logic:
- “Does not repeatedly publish false content.”
- “Gathers and presents information responsibly.”
- “Regularly corrects and clarifies errors.”
Talk about embarrassing.
NewsGuard is a paragon of journalistic virtue, but NewsGuard still supports leftist publications. An MRC study last year found that outlets rated “left” or “lean left” by AllSides received an average NewsGuard score of 93/100. Sites considered “right” or “lean right” by AllSides had an average NewsGuard rating of 66/100.
Conservatives under attack Contact NewsGuard General Manager Matt Skibinski at matt.skibinski@newsguardtech.com and demand that his firm downgrade The Washington Post’s grade because of Lorenz’s shoddy reporting and its shady editorial practices.
