Tate Myre, who was just 16 years old, was the Oxford High School’s football captain. It’s no wonder he was also on Toledo University’s radar for his football and leadership skills. The hero youth saved the lives of his fellow classmates in the tragedy at school on Tuesday. A sophomore gunman also killed two other students, and an educator.
Myre helped students flee for their safety. ran toward the shooter. After the star linebacker/tight end and wrestler attempted to disarm the shooter, a sheriff’s deputy found him bleeding in the hallway. Myre, who was en route to the hospital died from his injuries. News of this incredible young man’s bravery has spread far and wide.
Todd Starnes addressed in one of his radio commentaries:
“There is no doubt great evil in this world – and it was manifested in the act of the monster who killed those kids. But there is also great love in this world – and that was manifested in the life of Tate Myre – a 16-year-old boy who laid down his life for his friends.”
A Michigan TV station appropriately labeled Myre “forever a hero.”
Oxford High’s assistant coach Zach Line also spoke of Tate’ legacy:
“Tate was, and will forever be, a shining light for Oxford. While it is difficult to describe what he meant for me, I will forever hold him in high regard. God touches some people. He was one such person. “FOURTEEN TWO are the best of my four.”
Myre, a freshman on the varsity football squad, was a great leader and mentor. Jordan Ackerman was the Oxford High’s former athletic director. He spoke of how rare this is.
Ackerman stated that Tate’s athletic abilities will be most certainly remembered, but his legacy will continue because Tate was an incredible person who helped everyone around him.”
Well over 100,000 people have already signed an online petition to rename the school’s football stadium after Tate Myre. It states:
“Tate is not just a hero to his fellow students at Oxford high school but a legend, his act of bravery should be remembered forever and passed down through generations, he put his life in danger to try and help the thousands of other students at Oxford High School.”
