Here Are the Names of the GOP Lawmakers Who Refuse to Join Rep. Chip Roy’s Effort to Push Back on Biden’s Open Borders Agenda – Opinion

Since his election, it has become clear that Joe Biden and the rest of his Democratic colleagues in Congress don’t take border security seriously. In fact, the Biden administration’s failure to properly address the migrant crisis has been so pronounced it might make one speculate that he is deliberately allowing hundreds of thousands of migrants to enter the country.

It isn’t just Democrats that are responsible for this worsening situation. On Saturday, I wrote about Rep. Chip Roy’s (R-TX) efforts to get his GOP colleagues to unite in an effort to pressure the White House to take meaningful action to deal with the situation at the southern border.

According to Washington Examiner, the lawmaker is “circulating a letter among his Republican colleagues trying to garner support for forcing a House vote to reinstate certain Trump-era immigration policies.”

Roy wrote this tweet in October:

Roy made two discharge petitions that his colleagues could sign for him. One would make it necessary for Congress to review proposed legislation in order to decide whether Title 42 would need to be enforced by the White House. This is a public health law that permits immigration officials to deny migrants entry to the US border due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For the Migrant Protection Protocols, (MPP), the other side would make the same decision. The measure allows migrants to remain in Mexico until their asylum claims are resolved. Although the Biden administration attempted to repeal this Trump-era policy, it was stopped by the courts.

Indivisible.org explains how to execute a discharge petition.

A member of the House may file a motion for the bill to be discharged or removed from consideration after it has been presented and referred back to a standing panel for thirty days. To do so, the petition must be signed by the majority (218 votes, not delegated) of the House. The House takes 20 minutes to debate the discharge petition once it has been received by 218 of its members. The House will vote on the matter if it passes by all the people who signed the petition.

The majority of GOP lawmakers are willing to support the cause but there are some that haven’t signed the petitions. Below are the names for those who have not yet signed the Title 42 petition.

Some Republicans use the excuse that they’re in the minority to deny getting any progress. The reality is that the majority party in the minority is often unable to accomplish much if it is opposed.

Roy stated that forcing a vote would put pressure on moderate Democrats from moderate constituencies to support the effort to secure our borders. Additionally, it would force other Democrats to go on record opposing efforts to fix Biden’s migrant crisis.

“Because all we need is 218 signatures,” the lawmaker told the Washington Examiner. “So, we need five more signatures. So, then, we go to the office of every Democrat who are now going to be in tough primaries and say, ‘Hey, why aren’t you signing a discharge petition to make sure that our borders are secure?’”

“What the point here is to call them out for it,” he continued. “It would be a really nice point to say, ‘Hey, we have 213 Republicans who are unanimously calling on a return to migrant protection protocols and Title 42. And Democrats plainly refused to do it.”

Now is the right time to call or email your representative if they are on one of these lists. Every year, we complain about the way certain GOP candidates keep their promises but fail to deliver when they reach D.C. Some of these folks won’t do the right thing unless they know they will lose their position, so it is up to us to hold them accountable. Otherwise, many of these elected officials won’t bother to get anything done — even when they are back in power.
