Alabama and Ohio have passed versions of “constitutional carry.” That is a law that allows a lawful owner of a firearm to carry that firearm without additional governmental permission. Versions of the law have been passed by both Georgia’s Senate and state House. An advisory committee will be formed to try and reconcile any differences. Georgia will have its law approved within the week. This makes Georgia the 24th such state. Last year, Arkansas, Iowa and Montana joined the list. This puts half the country under constitutional carry. The measure is being considered by South Carolina, Nebraska, and Indiana.
Progressives like to claim that they would prefer it to be as simple to vote in America as to purchase a gun. They are ignorant of the matter, despite their bumper sticker slogan. To vote in the United States, a voter must first register. Then, they are eligible to participate in subsequent elections. They can show up at any time, often with their ID, and sign in.
A multipage form must be completed, along with photo identification, in order to purchase a gun in the United States. Then, you will need government clearance. Next, the buyer must pay the firearm’s cost. Progressives like to talk about “gun show loopholes,” which are not nearly as common as they believe. I have purchased multiple guns from gun show booths, and never experienced this loophole. Each time, however, I was required to submit paperwork and wait for permission from the government.
Once I was gifted with guns twice. The guns were sent from my state to local gun shops. Even though the gun was not my intention, I still had to complete the paperwork and wait for approval from the government. The Left thinks it’s easier to purchase guns than it really is. But Americans have become more familiar with the process. The nation is home to more than 330 million citizens. However, 393 million guns are owned by private citizens. This excludes law enforcement.
There are approximately 120.5 guns per 100 Americans, which makes the United States one of the largest private gun-owner countries. The United States is home to 46% of all gun owners, representing just 4% percent of the global population. “American civilians own nearly 100 times as many firearms as the U.S. military and nearly 400 times as many as law enforcement,” according to gun expert Stephen Gutowski.
Two years ago, the United States saw record gun ownership. Each month sees record-breaking gun purchases, and it seems that women have been buying more guns. The media and gun control organizations are trying to stop gun ownership. The American Left insists that laws be passed in order to restrict gun ownership. This includes CNN, The New York Times and Every Town For Gun Safety. However, as gun control groups and media allies become more vague, more funding is available, and more concrete efforts are made, they fail miserably. Democrats are unable to move any kind of gun control legislation, even with a Democrat President. Ironically, it was former President Donald Trump who has made the most significant gun control initiatives.
The media-savy and well-funded gun control campaign has not only failed but also failed to succeed as the National Rifle Association becomes sclerotic. NRA’s financial stability is at risk, it is embattled and ineffective. The NRA isn’t scoring points. Still, gun owners and state gun groups still have wins. It was very successful that the NRA came to this point.
The pro-life movement can learn a lot from this case. Pro-life organizations will continue to work for the culture and value of life even if Roe v. Wade ends at the Supreme Court. Some may have to accept victory, and then wind down. A pro-life group that becomes a victim of its own successes would have a negative impact on the reputation of the organization.
