Gov. Greg Abbott Should Be Thanking Beto O’Rourke for His Uvalde Stunt – Opinion

Robert Francis O’Rourke, the Irish Democratic Texas gubernatorial candidate who pretends to be Hispanic, just did Gov. Greg Abbott a huge favor. In the wake of the tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, O’Rourke made himself look utterly foolish by grandstanding at a somber press conference in which the governor was giving the public the facts of the incident.

As the Lone Star State is dealing with the shock, grief, and outrage of the murder of elementary school children, “Beto” decided it was a good time to try to get attention. The conference was about to end when Abbott gave the microphone back to O’Rourke, the Lieutenant Governor. Dan Patrick, O’Rourke made his move. O’Rourke stood up, shouted at officials and tried to criticize them for not being more concerned about guns. “You are doing nothing. You are all doing nothing… this is totally predictable,” he bloviated.

Don McLaughlin, Uvalde mayor, slammed Beto as a new person. “Sir, you’re out of order. Sir, you are out of line. Sir, this is a problem. Please leave the auditorium. I can’t believe you’re a sick son of a bitch who would come to a deal like this to make a political issue,” he seethed.

And that’s all she wrote for Beto O’Rourke, who is about as Hispanic as I am Chinese. This little act sealed the fate of O’Rourke, an Irishman who had no chance of beating Abbott. One thing would be for him to hold his own press conference and/or record a video where he criticizes Abbott’s inaction on stopping these kinds of atrocities. Whether one agreed with his arguments is irrelevant – it’s how these types of issues should be handled.

But it’s quite another to disrupt a press conference in which Abbott is explaining to the public how the incident went down as the state is in mourning. The murdered children and two teachers are not even in the ground yet and O’Rourke is using their deaths to score cheap political points. Sure, this stuff plays well for fellow leftists who have no problem exploiting deaths to push for gun control, but for the average Texan, this ain’t it.

His stunt was, for starters and foremost, the most offensive thing that he could do at that time. He made a tragic incident about himself and his campaign. Secondly, he’s doing it to push for further restrictions on firearms, which isn’t exactly a popular sentiment in Texas.

At this point, the governor’s race is Abbott’s to lose. But even if he tried, he couldn’t lose to the Irishman after this ridiculous, tone-deaf display. Abbott may be willing to give Beto a thank-you note and fruit basket after the November elections.
