Big news tonight involving the Virginia governor’s race. Glenn Youngkin has surpassed Terry McAuliffe, for the first-time since campaign started. This is according to the RealClearPolitics average number of polls. That’s due to a new survey out from Fox News getting added to the mix which shows Youngkin with a commanding lead.
RedState had previously stated that the situation was already close, but this latest data could mean Youngkin is breaking out in big ways.

McAuliffe’s campaign has been floundering for a while, but it truly jumped the shark this week when he brought in a slew of non-Virginian politicians, including Barack Obama and Joe Biden. He spent much of his time blaming parents who are concerned about their kids as right-wing conspirators fighting a false culture war. Meanwhile, the current president just said the word “Trump” over and over. The most offensive attack, however was to compare Youngkin with those who entered Capitol Building on January 6.
If these numbers are correct, however, they show that the voters don’t buy any of this. Youngkin is a popular choice for those with children in school, as McAuliffe repeatedly insulted them. Meanwhile, bad economic news today, which was just a continuation of months of inflation and sub-par reports, likely isn’t helping the Democrat either.
However, polls may always be inaccurate. But, the last two governor’s races have seen the polling indicate a heavy bias toward the Democrat candidate vs. the actual results, not the Republican. So if the polls are wrong, it would be a new failure, unlike one we’ve seen in the last several cycles and in the opposite direction.
Regardless, I think we’ve reached the point where you’d rather be in Glenn Youngkin’s position right now compared to Terry McAuliffe’s. That’s crazy and would have been unthinkable to utter two months ago, but that’s what the numbers currently show. It will matter how many people turn out. Republicans need to turn out like gangbusters Tuesday in red, rural areas. It could be a big difference in NOVA if these areas perform well.
All this is setting up for a thrilling finish. If Youngkin pulls this off, it’s full speed ahead into 2022, and you’ll be able to cut the tension on the left with a knife.
