George Soros Vows to Continue Backing Woke Prosecutors Despite the Lives They’ve Ruined – Opinion

Billionaire activist George Soros wrote an editorial in the Wall Street Journal Sunday announcing his intention to continue dropping tens of millions of dollars in donations to get woke, “progressive” district attorneys elected in cities across the nation. He laughably claimed that such prosecutors are making the criminal justice system “more effective and just,” despite much evidence to the contrary, including skyrocketing crime and countless shattered lives. He says:

Americans are desperate for a thoughtful conversation about how to respond to criminality. The demagoguery, divisive attacks by partisans that dominate and obscure discussion have become too much for many people.

Hungarian-born, ninety-one year-old financier continued, stating that he believes the American justice system has been unfair.

Yet, our system is full of injustices which make it less safe. It is false to think that you have to make a choice between safety and justice. Both of them complement each other. The justice system can be trusted by people who have confidence in its operation.It will be successful. The system will work, and public safety will increase. (It is mine.)

There’s an obvious problem with the above sentence. The People don’t trust the justice system under the prosecutors he supports, because they’ve been soft on crime and utterly uninterested in the rights of victims. Soros might rush to the aid of an attacker who is stabbed, and leave the victim on the floor.

According to NY Post Soros is quite generous.

The Capital Research Center reported in January of this year that Soros has given more than $29 million to left-wing district attorney candidates through a network of political action committees. Larry Krasner, Kim Foxx, Kim Gardner, St. Louis and Kim Ogg, all of Philadelphia are other incumbents that have received the generous support.

Here’s a rogue’s gallery of those he’s sent money to through his web of PACs: Los Angeles DA George Gascon, former San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin (recalled), Cook County Illinois State’s Prosecutor Kim Foxx of Jussie Smollett fame, Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, and more. Each one has horror stories, and RedState reported them.

  • Gascon gave just five months probation to a drugged-out, paroled teen who mowed down a mother and baby in a stolen car;
  • One gang member killed two El Monte officers in an agreement with Gascon.
  • Alvin Bragg charged a bodega worker in Manhattan with murder after he defended himself in an attack, while the attacker’s girlfriend was not charged despite stabbing the employee three times;
  • The Chicago Bears just announced they are moving from downtown’s Soldier Field because of the constant shootings; and,
  • A veteran prosecutor in Kim Foxx’ office resigned with a scathing letter Friday, accusing the office of being “more concerned with political narratives and agendas than with victims and prosecuting violent crime.”

These prosecutors are known for letting out violent criminals, and then spitting on victims’ faces. There are many other stories.

Yet Soros wants “justice.”

We need to invest more in preventing crime with strategies that work—deploying mental-health professionals in crisis situations, investing in youth job programs, and creating opportunities for education behind bars. This decreases the chances that these prisoners will reoffend after their release.

That sounds all nice and “justice-y,” but how does releasing dangerous felons accomplish these goals?

Reform-minded prosecutors around the country and law enforcement officials have come together to create an agenda promising more effectiveness and justice in recent years. The agenda calls for prioritizing resources in the criminal justice systems to safeguard people from violent crime.

Another example of Leftists claiming they can deliver something, but actually doing the opposite. They have actively tried to raise crime rates, not just because they fail to give priority to violent crime victims and their victims but also because these Soros prosecutors aren’t able to help them prioritize it. This is the counter-plot for Bond’s villain:

Many politicians and pundits blame the recent rise in crime on reform-minded prosecutors. The research I’ve seen says otherwise. Analyzing data in 35 jurisdictions shows no link between reform-minded prosecutor elections and local crime rates.

This is a powerful argument. But wait… what’s missing? The name of the research paper he’s supposedly citing, or even one statistic. In any case, I don’t need a research paper to know what I’m seeing—I have two eyes and a brain, and what I’m seeing is staggering crime and tragedy and it just so happens to be on a massive upswing since Defund the Police and woke prosecutors came into fashion. I don’t need to be a Rhodes scholar to figure out what’s going on.

Soros’s conclusion sounds more like an invitation to hope than a threat.

That is why I supported the election, and more recently the reelection, of prosecutors who are reform-minded. It was transparent and it is not something I intend to stop. My funds allow sensible, reform-minded candidates to be heard by the public. Judging by the results, the public likes what it’s hearing.

No, George, the public does not like what’s hearing, and that is why San Franciscans recalled whacko DA Chesa Boudin and why voters are desperately trying to get rid of George Gascon. I’m also pretty sure that the dozens of people shot every weekend in Chicago don’t like what they’re seeing.

The American justice system shouldn’t be for sale to the highest bidder.
