Gavin Newsom’s behavior at this point must have been a sign of serious problems.
Gavin Newsom, despite his smug delivery and his monologues that are dripping in condescension is really revealing his desperate attempts to lure Californians back. The governor appears a little preoccupied with luring those fleeing the Golden State. Despite the assurance displayed by his scripts there are signs of desperation in the sequels.
He began by running advertisements in Florida. His goal was to make California the “land of liberty” to attract Floridians to move to his state. Delusional boastfulness was used to claim that the land of DeSantis with its fascist government and permissive employment laws were somehow libertine meccas. This idiocy was repeated in Texas by DeSantis, who sounded like a vegan trying to lure brisket lovers to a soy barbecue stand.
Newsom is now in desperate need of help.As he turned his attention back to Hollywood,Television and film productions. Newsom offers a double shot of offer, which neither sounds very rational. He is trying to take advantage of recent developments. Roe vs. WadeDecision as motivator. He wants studios to halt productions in states that will have restrictive abortion laws – namely Georgia and Oklahoma – and return to the abortion Shangri-la that is California. It seems that the studio connection is at best tenuous.
He is also showing the other leg with an elevated hemline and a cash garter. Newsom will offer more tax incentives in an effort to encourage studios to visit Burbank or Culver city, which has long been the primary driving force behind these shoots seeking greener pastures. Newsom is pushing for new legislation to dangle more money.
The billIf passed, it will give $1.65 billion, or $330 millions annually, in tax credits for film, television, and other media productions after 2025 when the program is set to end.
While I will be fully transparent and say that I am not a Democrat nor a Californian – this does seem to me to be a deviation from party policy. I have it on relatively good authority – that is, years of Democrat indoctrination – that this type of practice is wrong. It has been long believed that Wall Street-obsessed Republicans have been distributing tax money to billionaires and multinational corporations. But, Gavin is revealing the checks that he has been paying to his constituents.
This move is not about corporate welfare. That’s one of the many political tools used by Democrats for decades. We see Newsom, one of most liberal governors of one of the liberal states using the same tactics liberals routinely denounce. Newsom is adamantly admitting to California that the policies he was pushing were injurious.
It is not hard to see why all these studios fled other parts of the country with their works. Canada has been sucking productions out of California for decades; Vancouver is the name. Hollywood NorthThis is why. Georgia is now a filming hub. Studios have been built in huge numbers, and major movies like Marvel’s superhero films are shot there.
California’s high taxes and oppressive union standards have been driving out work consistently. Now add in the nonsensical AB-5 labor law, and the nation’s highest gas prices, and there are few reasons for new work to be brought in. Newsom knows this. His repeated attempts to recruit people and workers from less fertile locations is an indication that he realizes the severity of the problem.
If you notice a Democrat who is willing to give up tax collection, it’s a sign that something is wrong. Gavin’s attention on Florida, Texas and other areas that foster the entertainment industry shows how serious things are.
