As RedState reported, ostensible GOP consultant Frank Luntz teased a coming “major story” that would supposedly prove “embarrassing” for Republicans and Donald Trump.
Here’s what that looked like last night.
Now, that’s some big news.@JonKarlA major story on Trump and the GOP is set to be published by The Daily Beast, January 20th. This will cause embarrassment for many people. He also has it in Betrayal which isn’t yet out.
Clue: This is the first time a POTUS has done this in over 100 years.

When I did the initial write-up, I didn’t do much in the way of speculating what this was supposed to be because I honestly had no idea. It was a total no-burger, which I knew would appeal only to beltway smarts.
Well, Luntz has now revealed the “embarrassing” anecdote that will appear in Jon Karl’s new, sure-to-be low-selling book, and I must admit that I was wrong. This won’t be a 12-hour story as I stated. It won’t even be a one-hour story.
His new book is available here @JonKarlAccording to reports, Trump quit the GOP before his flight from D.C. on Jan 20, 2021.
He will be also the honored guest at the event. @HouseGOP gala tonight.
Trump does Trump still deny that he quit GOP? Is this something that anyone would dispute?

How would Luntz change his approach if he was trying to become grifter-of the-year? It seemed like a tease that a new and unique insight was about to be revealed regarding Trump. The big news was that Trump did temporarily do something he had publicly stated he would. I mean, I can’t go search through his tweets anymore because he’s banned, but I’m pretty darn sure he threatened to start a third party several times. If I’m wrong on that point, I apologize, but that’s my recollection.
Also, even though this is a completely different story, what makes it so embarrassing? We’ve always known that the former president was extremely upset following the 2020 election. After the certification, he was full-on angry and even attacked his vice president. Heck, I’d of actually been surprised if we found out he didn’t threaten to leave the party at some point over the last year. That he did is wholly predictable, and that’s assuming this anonymously sourced report is true.
Trump was also against the idea of starting third parties by February 31st. Trump did it as the keynote speaker for CPAC Florida. In other words, even if Karl’s claim is true (and I’m not sure it is), it’s totally irrelevant at this point. Trump has not started a third party, and Republicans don’t care that he may have thought about it.
I’ve seen people do some desperate things to try to hawk a book, but this ranks pretty high on the list. Luntz drank water from Karl, and now he pretends that Republicans must answer for the dumb rumor. This guy has a lot of grift. Kevin McCarthy might be interested in this.
