Former Top Obama Advisor David Axelrod Shreds Biden, Says He’s ‘Not in Command’ – Opinion

The man who masterminded both successful presidential campaigns for former President Obama, strategist David Axelrod, has harsh words for the current Commander-in-Chief saying, “There is this sense that things are kind of out of control and he’s not in command.” Appearing on CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper” Thursday, he added, “so, you know, this is a very, very fraught environment for him right now.”

The first question that pops into my mind is, does this have Obama’s blessing? It’s hard to imagine that Axelrod, now a CNN commentator, would criticize the Democratic Party’s standard-bearer without running it first by his former boss. The second question I have is: How long do you think this man will be working at CNN? Because if he keeps spouting off like this, he’s bound to upset some folks at the left-leaning network who have been covering for Biden since day one of his presidency. Paging Brian Stelter and Oliver Darcy…

Axelrod didn’t stop there though, continuing to rip the president:

Although no president is in control of inflation, it’s a force gale right now. It’s affecting politics.

Today, you heard his comments on the gas price. While he speaks about the gas tax holidays, it is unlikely that he will get them. Many Americans are also skeptical of whether they would benefit.

It’s true that no one president can control inflation, but one can certainly exacerbate the problem with profligate spending. Biden’s out-of-control layouts include mega-bills like the $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill and the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan providing for COVID relief. Add tens to billions more that were sent to Ukraine. All this could have something to do inflation.

Don’t forget that Biden wanted to spend more—up to $5 trillion more on the Build Back Better bill, but was only stopped because he couldn’t get the votes. If this behemoth had made it to Congress, imagine how bad inflation would have been.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said in November of 2021 that Biden’s monstrous agenda was even bigger than the New Deal and that “Never in American history has so much been spent at one time.”

This inflation came at a high price.

Tapper quizzed Axelrod on an AP/NORC poll that showed 85 percent believe the United States is heading in the wrong direction. “That frankly points to disaster for Democrats in November,” Tapper argued. Axelrod agrees:

If you were looking at the chart, you’d say the vitals are not good. The President’s approval rating’s at 38%. Economic ratings for the President are poor. The consumer confidence has dropped. You mentioned the following.

The two also discussed the filibuster, with both acknowledging that although Biden has recently suggested pausing it for an abortion vote, he can’t actually make that happen. Tapper flatly declared, “Well he’s not going to be able to get it done,” because he simply doesn’t have the votes. Axelrod again agreed.

Axelrod, who is a faithful Dem and a CNN contributor, had to at least make an attempt at optimism by claiming that the recent turn of events in Roe v WadeThe progressive base might be galvanized. “You know, If I were a Republican strategist, I’d be a little bit worried about that right now,” he said.

That’s no David. Republican strategists don’t need to be worried right now. They are also able to read polls.

Although Axelrod was critical of Biden’s past administration, he appears to have taken the gloves off in this interview. Does he have the Big O’s blessing, as I asked earlier? This is a signal that Dems are going to jump on the Biden train and attempt to take the race out in 2024.

Oder are they clearing the decks to Michelle Obama’s benefit?
