Enes Kanter Changes Name Ahead Of Citizenship Ceremony

Enes Kanter is a Boston Celtics player who will today become America’s newest citizen. He will have to complete his citizen oath ceremony. But his national allegiance will not be unchanged.

Kanter will legally change his name to “Enes Kanter Freedom,” cementing his already staunch commitment to advocating for human rights. He made himself famous in recent weeks for being an outspoken critic of China’s humanitarian crimes, and for calling out Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James and Michael Jordan for being silent on China’s forced labor camps.

Kanter is a Turkish native and has been open to speaking his mind for many years. His passport was revoked after he criticised Recep Tayyip Erdan in 2017. He and his family were charged with being terrorists in 2017. Any game that he played was also censored by Turkey.

Given all of the legal threats that he faced for criticizing government officials, it makes sense that he would want to be a citizen in a country with constitutionally protected free speech rights.

Kanter explained why he changed his name on CNN.

Kanter stated that freedom is the most important thing a person can possess.

Ime Udoka of the Celtics was very happy with his forwards and all the decisions that he took:

“We congratulated him as a group for getting his American citizenship last week,” Udoka said. “That’s who Enes is, we’re proud of him. Enes has always been who he was. He’s passionate about his stances and the name change; you look at [Ron] Artest [who changed his name to Metta Sandiford-Artest in the middle of the COVID-19 outbreak]And men who have done it before. It’s something he wants to express and we’re all for it.”

Although the change in the name is a great gesture, it is not the main victory. A foreigner saw America to be a country worth their loyalty. Today, celebrities and entitled people think living in America is a burden rather than a blessing. They complain about this constantly (as though complaining was a virtue).

You are granted many freedoms if your parents are American. Yet, these same people believe that America can only be made better by toppling its foundations and creating communist societies.

Kanter believed differently. Kanter saw America as a country of freedom, where he wouldn’t be outcast because he spoke freely and wanted to live free. He made America his home and became a citizen of the United States.

We can all get a healthy dose of perspective on how amazing a country America is from this basketball star. Welcoming to America Mr. Freeodm.
