Trump Roasts ‘Young Bartender’ Who Came Up With Green New Deal

“The Green New Deal, done by a young bartender, 29-years-old.”

President Donald Trump mocked Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., on Tuesday night over her ambitious Green New Deal proposal, triggering criticism from liberals and media pundits.

Speaking at the National Republican Congressional Committee dinner, Trump took aim at Ocasio-Cortez – without ever actually mentioning her name.

“The Green New Deal, done by a young bartender, 29-years-old,” Trump joked as the audience tittered.

“A young bartender, wonderful young woman,” he continued. “The Green New Deal. The first time I heard it I said, ‘That’s the craziest thing.’ You have senators that are professionals that you guys know that have been there for a long time, and they’re standing behind her shaking. They’re petrified of her.”

Trump noted that he didn’t want to be too critical of the proposal, hoping instead he would get to campaign against it.

“I’m only afraid that we’re going to be too hard on the Green New Deal and they’re not going to do it because I want them to do it,” Trump explained. “We don’t want to have them knock it out before we run against it, so let’s take it easy.”

The president’s remarks sparked handwringing on social media.

In his 88-minute speech tonight, Trump:
• Twice mocked Biden
• Referred to Green New Deal as the work of a “young bartender”
• Urged Rs to be “more paranoid” about vote counting
• Claimed wind turbine noise causes cancer
• Claimed former VA employees were “sadists”

MSNBC political analyst Eli Stokols took issue with several of the claims Trump made during the speech.

“Joked he could be elected prime minister of Israel, Claimed that after GOP tax reform ‘the lowest paid people are doing the best’, Told Republicans they’re currently losing on healthcare but can win on it by vowing to vote for a new GOP plan in 2021,” Stokols tweeted.

“Donald Trump is a 72 year-old given everything he has by his daddy who lost nearly all of it anyway in a life marked by corruption, adultery, lies, and stupidity,” Newsweek columnist Seth Abramson said. “AOC went from being a bartender to a Congresswoman who lives rent-free in a president’s head in 24 months.”

“Does that mean she can refer to him as a ‘guy with a cameo in a Playboy soft-core porn video,” MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle asked.

Trump has previously taken aim at Ocasio-Cortez and her Green New Deal, saying he hopes to make it a central issue in his bid for reelection.

Ocasio-Cortez, who emerged as a rising star in the Democratic party last year, proposed her Green New Deal plan shortly after taking office in January.

While many Democrats rushed to embrace the proposal, others have mocked it as unrealistic. Republicans have criticized the plan as ineffective and costly.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-K.Y., put the Green New Deal up for a vote in the Senate last week. It was rejected in a 57-0 vote.
