Amid an outbreak of the highly contagious coronavirus, some critics of Donald Trump are publicly expressing hopes that the president catches the potentially fatal disease.
Trump on Thursday said he was not concerned about the possibility of being exposed to the coronavirus after dining last week with a Brazilian government official who has since tested positive for the disease.
“Let it take him,” actress Jahkara Smith tweeted Thursday in response to reports that suggested the president would not undergo testing in response to contact with Brazil‘s communications secretary, Fabio Wajngarten, who has the coronavirus and is now under quarantine at home.
White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said Trump and Vice President Mike Pence had “almost no interactions” with the Brazilian official and that they “do not require being tested at this time.”
“Let’s let Darwinism take its course …” tweeted one commenter.

Another tweeted an image of a cartoon Trump in a coffin from the animated comedy series “The Simpsons”:
Go to the light, Donald, go to the light! Don't turn back, the light came *just* for you, embrace it, Donald!

Trump’s critics have attempted to paint the coronavirus pandemic and fallout as perhaps the greatest crisis of his presidency.
Former Vice President Joe Biden, the front-runner for the Democratic nomination to challenge Trump‘s bid for re-election in November, criticized the administration’s handling of the coronavirus outbreak on Thursday afternoon.
Grisham said the White House medical unit and the U.S. Secret Service are ensuring that “every precaution is taken” to ensure the good health of Trump and Pence, their families and staff.
