Donald Trump Basks in Glorious Victory at Rally After Monumental Supreme Court Decision – Opinion

Donald Trump was in Illinois Saturday night to hold a rally for Rep. Mary Miller (one of his endorsees) for the House of Representatives. As you’d expect, though, the Dobbs decision from the Supreme Court, which overturned the non-existent constitutional “right” to an abortion, took center stage.

To take a well-deserved victory lap and address the historic moment that the country is in, the former president took the podium. Chants of “thank you, Trump” rang out, overtaking the speech at one point.

Trump is a great man. You love it. “Congratulations,” he told the crowd, noting the hard work and countless judicial appointments it took to reach this result.

Trump continued to praise the Supreme Court Justices, who were part of the majority. DobbsThey noted that they had been subject to a constant campaign of harassment, threats and violence, which included the assassination attempt on Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The former president also nailed the Democrat Party and the “two-tiered system of justice” that allowed those threats to build without much, if any, pushback. The hysteria surrounding January 6th was then likened to the “two-tiered system of justice” that allowed those threats to grow without much, if any, pushback.

Trump did not choose to focus solely on his role as a witness. RoeWhile he won’t be overturned, I think he gets a lot of credit. I’ve seen some on the right (the usual suspects) attempting to downplay the former president’s part in nominating the three justices who ultimately provided the votes necessary to end abortion as a federally-protected “right.” Often, their arguments boil down to “well, any Republican would have made those picks.” But that’s absolute nonsense, and history is our guide on the matter.

For fifty years, diverse Republican presidents have had the opportunity to appoint justices to the court. RoeIts equally inept sister opinion. Casey. They muffed 50 percent of their picks for fifty years. To put it in perspective, Republicans had the chance to save millions of lives decades earlier, but Anthony Kennedy (who authored Casey), Sandra Day O’Connor, David Souter, and John Roberts ended up put on the court instead.

Even worse is the fact that former President George W. Bush chose Justice Samuel Alito to be his nominee. Alito was responsible for the creation of The Constitution. DobbsHe tried to get Harriet Myers (a pro-abortion squish) on the Supreme Court.

In short, I don’t want to hear the stupid assertions that what Trump did was no big deal, and that any other Republican would have done the same thing. Other Republicans had the same chance to do the same thing and they didn’t. Their voters were let down again and again. While Mitch McConnell is to be credited for stopping Justice Neil Gorsuch’s confirmation of Merrick Garland as AG, it was Trump that was the catalyst. All of this wouldn’t have happened without Trump’s defeat of Hillary Clinton. He cannot be taken away.
