According to reports, 2021 has seen a worrying rise in traffic fatalities. The U.S. saw the largest increase in traffic deaths in the last six months since 1979, when the government started tracking them.
Citing the Department of Transportation’s annual Fatality Analysis Reporting System, Fox News reported:
According to the Department of Transportation, more than 21,000 people were killed in auto accidents in the United States during the first 6 months of 2021. This is 18.4% higher than the previous year.
It is not an easy job, particularly for the average person. But fortunately, CNN’s Don Lemon is on the job and has sussed this whole situation out. According to Don Lemon, a media activist discovered the cause: Right-wingers.
That’s right, folks. If you’re reading this article, which is posted on a conservative website, it is highly likely that YOU are responsible for deaths involving motor vehicles.
All of you should be embarrassed.
Lemon first set the scene, noting how many automobile deaths there have been:
“38,680 deaths on U.S. roads last year — the most fatalities since 2007. And that’s even with pandemic precautions drastically reducing the numbers of drivers on the road. Why is this? Well, some experts are saying that this is due to an overall lack of civility in our society — a lack of civility we have seen at school board meetings. .. Over mask mandates. … And on airplanes.”
The media activist did not specify who these “experts” are, but he did have Pamela Shadel Fisher from the Governors Highway Safety Association as a guest to help us understand the matter. Her explanation was that there were fewer vehicles on the roads and people had become more reckless due to the pandemic stress. She also cited a supposed increase in “uncivil” behavior.
Lemon even pretended to be concerned by the disturbing rise of violent crime in the past year.
“Just three more weeks before 2021 comes to a close, but it’s already going down as a year with a soaring number of homicides all across the country. In some places, the murder rate has broken all records. Experts agree that the stress caused by the COVID pandemic is definitely a factor. But the major factor, guns.”
He didn’t directly blame conservatives for the spike in crime rates, but he focused on the existence of guns, which is something that right-wingers, and the Constitution, support. He failed to mention that gun laws have not been updated recently and that most gun crime are being committed with illegally acquired firearms. Whoops!
His other guest, Austin sheriff Joseph Chacon managed to bring some truths into the discussion. “We have seen really a spike in gun violence, so, you know, just a proliferation of illegally owned weapons on the street,” he explained.
Of course, there was no mention of the “Defund the Police” movement and the anti-police sentiment fomented by folks like Lemon as a potential contributor to the rise in homicides. It isn’t surprising. CNN is the source of this information.
Fisher for her part didn’t attempt to blame conservatives. Fisher said that:
“It’s a combination of so many things, but it really does come down to a lack of regard for themselves and everybody else out there on the road. I mean, people are taking incredible risks, driving at high rates of speed, driving impaired on alcohol, drugs, sometimes multiple substances at the same time; not wearing seatbelts — which people say to me, “Everybody wears a seatbelt.” ‘They aren’t wearing seatbelts. They’re using their cell phones.”
Thank God for people like CNN’s Don Lemon. We would not have known without media professionals like Don Lemon that the majority of traffic fatalities are caused by Republican voters. In fact, now that I think about it, being a conservative myself, I’ve often felt like driving recklessly just for the hell of it.
Why, just the other day I was out and about and I thought to myself: “Self,” I thought, “I’m very much concerned with Biden’s failed immigration policies and the Democrats’ efforts to violate my Second Amendment rights. Maybe I might feel better if I get in my car and drive donuts all over this parking lot with reckless abandon.”
My court date for next month has been fixed.
