Disney Can Either Be Consistent—or They Can Finally Admit to Partisan Hackery – Opinion

Late Tuesday, Disney-owned network ABC announced that “The View” host Whoopi Goldberg had been suspended after comments regarding the Holocaust. Although I, along with many others, found her comments inaccurate and ignorant I did not support her suspension. Goldberg’s comments, which discounted the role that race or ethnicity played in the Nazi’s targeting of the six million victims of the Holocaust, were immediately corrected by her co-hosts.

Later, Goldberg doubled down on her comments on Colbert, stating that her comments stemmed from the fact that it may be harder to tell Jewish persons from non-Jewish persons, and that it is certainly harder for “the Klan coming down the street” to identify Jews as opposed to Black persons. While her remarks are true, some racism jerks would find it easier to decide someone who’s black than someone who’s an Ethnic Jew. But, saying that the Holocaust is not linked with race is absurd. You might call it misinformation.

If we think about the type of action we would want taken against Whoopi goldberg, we find ourselves in an awkward position. When it came to the war on Freedom of Speech, I was genuinely opposed by the left. The actions taken against Gina Carano and Chris Hardwick as well as Aziz Ansari were too extreme for me. The left used their ability to create change to “cancel” people with whom they disagreed, and they decided that any accusation of what amounts to a bad date was worthy of career-ending shame.

Carano was later suspended from the cast and let go. MandalorianShe did so because she made a comparison between people turning in their neighbors to COVID violators and Europeans that turned in Jews during World War II. Carano’s comments, though a bit hyperbolic, ring true in this case –nas we saw neighbors reporting COVID violations, bringing down enforcement from jackbooted cops who had nothing better to do (not like the country is facing a surge in property crime or anything) than enforce mandates which have done nothing to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Disney even mischaracterized Carano’s quote:

“Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Carano’s hyperbole aside, Carano did not denigrate or disparage Jews nor discount their treatment at the hands Nazis. She never criticized or suggested any dislike for anyone based upon “cultural and religious identities.” She also did not outright call those who turned in their neighbors, Nazis.

The fact that it was there suggested that Americans could turn on other friendly and cooperative neighbours simply by being asked to do so, in the same way as Germans and other Europeans during World War II. The comparison is simply that no crime is committed by either party (Jews or COVID-partying neighbors), yet neighbors were willing to send in the Gestapo at the first sign of “non-compliance.”  Disney made her actions out to be something which they were not, in order to rid the company of another conservative voice in media.

They didn’t hesitate to fire Carano for far less than Goldberg. Carano was expelled from at most two other series and, potentially, Star Wars movie futures, driving Ben Shapiro to openly embrace her. Disney’s “zero-tolerance policy” is now being tested, and yet it seems that they are turning Goldberg-gate into a learning experience for Whoopi, while having denied Carano of the same opportunity.

It isn’t that any of us should want to see Goldberg fired. I’d rather Disney own up to their ideological biases and rehire Carano. It is important that we expect an intellectual continuity with these rules for the way society should operate.

Goldberg could be dismissed for Carano’s Holocaust reference. Disney can use this opportunity to demonstrate that their standards transcend ideological differences and aren’t just excuses for ignoring them. They have two options to get it right and one that they cannot get wrong. They could fire Goldberg and rehire Carano or they could remain the partisan hacks that they are. This would prove all we suspected about their agenda.

Do you think it would be called Schadenfreude? Sure. I can’t imagine anything more joyful than seeing the ugly beast the left has created by their cultist wake-ism turn around and start eating its creators. Their once shining ivory towers are crumbling, making them look lowly hypocrites. We demand they live up to their standards. We would have never asked them to fire Carano, and we wouldn’t be asking them to fire Goldberg, but when you set a benchmark, when you establish a canon by which all things shall be judged, you had better stick to it or reverse all the decisions made under it. They can’t expect the general population to continue to ignore their double standards, whether it is for mask compliance, sexual impropriety, or violence against women (I’m looking at you, Keith Ellison).

It begs the question: How long can Disney and other makers of this monster out-of control continue to run from it?  They can’t control the beast any longer, so how much longer before they destroy a sacred cow?
